I look to either side of me and watch as the traffic jam fuels peoples anger enough to the point that a man gets out of his vehicle and body slams another man to the ground. As I watch, I sit there and remember the last time I saw her a couple months ago in Michigan. I was in a small town where I met Mr. Gilroy.
After that, I haven’t seen or heard from her. I guess in a way it is a good thing, but it always makes me feel a little uneasy when she doesn’t show her face at all. Trying to find a place to hold up while waiting for her to show up again, I do a couple under the table jobs in the meantime and when those ran out, I headed to another state.

On my way through town, I stop at The Saratoga Café and Diner and grab a bite to eat. The minute I walk in, the aromas captivate my senses, and it makes me feel so hungry I could eat a horse. Sitting in my room, I stare out the window at the picturesque scene. Between the beautiful Mount Mansfield, or the dense forests of Smuggler’s Notch State Park, this place is quite an eye full. Everywhere I look, I see trees and a mountain scene to die for. Maybe that is why she has come here so many times in the last 6 years. As I walk through the Minuteman National Historic Park, I start to feel like I have been transported through time and place to when the Revolution was in full swing. Then I swing by Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House and feel like I stepped into Little Women. I remember having to read it in middle school and we had to learn all about the setting of this little place. Once I took a tour of a few more historic places, I start to feel like I should be watching my back. I don’t know if it was in my head or if she can make herself only visible to me, but when she stepped right up to me in public, I nearly pulled my knife out of my waist band and went after her in broad daylight. “Beep” “Beep” “Beep” “Beep” I struggle to open my eyes and when I do, the sun’s glare from the snow hits them and I become temporarily blind. Feeling for my phone so I can shut off the alarm, I feel the edge just before I hear it drop on the hard wood floor and pray that it hasn’t broken. “Great. Just my luck.” Opening my eyes, I see the old Ferris wheel and the old-fashioned carousel just outside my window over by the Old Orchard Beach Pier. It’s winter in Old Orchard Beach, and nothing is open this time of year except for a handful of shops and small restaurants. When I made a few phone calls last week on my way around the New England states, I found out that she was seen here within the last 2 weeks which means she may still be in the area. Driving into a college town, feels a little bit like a small town with a lot of congestion. You wouldn’t think there would be so many people up and down the streets because of just how few houses there are, but instead you see floods of people walking everywhere. When you go down the back streets, masses of college age children are partying, and it feels like pandemonium. Still trying to wrap my head around the fact that she called me up just so she could tantalize me with this detail, I watch everyone closely to see if I notice anything odd. As I sit in my car in Jud, North Dakota looking over my phone’s map app, I wonder how I found this little strip of heaven. Every where I turn, I see murals that are vibrant and have different things painted all over them. Now a man can admire a work of art without being called a pansy, I might add. Deciding to stay for a little while, I pull out onto the intersection and notice a diner on the corner before the next stop sign. After getting a great night’s sleep, I open my eyes and feel like I could do just about anything. Hell, I don’t even feel out of sorts this morning.
