CHAPTER 48 – THE DEVOTION OF A BETA

Oliver appeared visibly better since the last time I had seen him, after his mission and the tortures he endured. The mere memory of that dark camp, the fallen wolf bodies, and Harvey being momentarily subdued by the beast were enough to snap me out of my trance.

The alpha's snout brought me back to reality, jolting me from my grim recollections.

“Is everything okay?” he inquired, gazing at me with analytical eyes. “There's no reason to fear the Beta. Any threat against you is a direct affront to me; he wouldn't dare.”

Apparently, my scent of panic had spread, as Oliver, now in his human form, furrowed his brow, and the watchful wolves also directed their gazes my way.

“It's nothing,” I murmured, offering a timid smile, feeling embarrassed.

“My king,” the Beta respectfully acknowledged.

“Beta, why are you in your human form?” the Alpha impatiently growled. All lowered their heads in submission and fear.
