I'm excited to have gotten this job but at the same time scared to the core that my ex is my fucking boss. And he HATES me. He's sworn to unleash hell on earth.
I just hope he's professional and doesn't unleash that hell on me at work. Because I really need this job. I really need that cash for survival. So I hope this will be a conducive environment for me to work in.
I'm earlier than usual on my first day.
A young pretty woman in a green jumpsuit looks me up and down and says,
"Follow me."
I follow her to the corner of the hallway where she opens the door and points with a right hand,
"This is your office."
Fuck!
The room is dark, dirty, dusty and untidy.
The files are scattered everywhere on the dusty desk, the curtains have not been drawn and they look really dirty. In short, this office is filthy.
And I know who is behind this.
CJ.
But I won't complain.
"Seven like the number?"Seven nods as he carries the bag of groceries for me towards the lift."Yea... Seven like the number. And just so you know, Seven is a lucky number.""I've heard that before..."His green eyes sparkle. "And what actually made my mom call me Seven is because I was born on the seventh day of the seventh month.""7th July?"Seven nods. "Gee! Sorry for being so awkward on the first day... Blame it on being born a writer."I gasp. "You're a writer?"He facepalms himself. "I've said too much about myself, don't you think?"I chuckle at how weird he is. "No. Just three things. You're Seven. Born on the seventh day of the seventh month. And that you're awkward coz you're a writer.""See... You know a million things about me when I know zero about you!"I giggle. "Well, coz I'm not as interesting as a man named after an
"The service here is terrible!" Seven grumbles. It's been half an hour and the coffee is not yet here.I've never been to this restaurant but it's a lesson to never ever come here. No matter how much I'm starving. The service is terrible and the only thing good about it is that it's not stuffed with customers.Probably because the people in this town know it's a horrible restaurant with terrible service."But atleast they are giving me a little bit time to know more about you, Sugar..."I giggle. "I keep telling you I'm not interesting. Boring is the word.""I love boring."I roll my eyes and sigh. "Fine. I'm just a simple girl that does 9-5 to make sure her bills get paid. That's all. Told you I'm boring.""What do you do?""I'm a HR at The CJ Company.""The famous entrepreneur? He's made it to Forbes before?" he asks.I nod. "Yes. That was three years ago when he was listed as The Top 30 Men under 3
"You're sixty minutes late to work."CJ stops dangling with the pencil and clasps his chin. He looks into my eyes, that cocky grin stuck on his handsome face."Give me one valid reason why I shouldn't fire you."Fire! He wants to fire me?How the fuck am I supposed to tell him that my ex-best friend chose today of all days to lock herself up in my bathroom and I had to get a shower at my new neighbour's place.Someone tell me that's a valid reason. But I know he wouldn't believe me anyway."I said give me a valid reason!" he roars standing up from the seat.I jerk back, startled."I... I..." I stutter fumbling for an excuse in my head. "I had to fix my car. It broke down on the way..."CJ moves towards me, his hands dug in his pockets."You are lying."How the fuck did he know?"I know it when you
"I need a leave."CJ looks up at me in disgust."Who the hell let you in my office!""CJ, this is not the time and place for this. Please, I need a leave."He glares at me. "I'm not talking to you with no appointment. Go back. Get an appointment. Come back.""I've waited the whole day to get a chance to talk to you! It's serious, Sir!""Don't call me sir!""Cedric!"For a moment, our eyes bore into each other but he swiftly glances away."Don't call me that either. It's CJ.""Okay CJ! Please I need that leave urgently."CJ clasps his chin, looking at me sternly."You just started working here the other day and you're already asking for a leave!""As I said, it's urgent... Please!" I squeal."What happened?""Something serious.""What?""My friend's husband died."Sympathy flickers in
The window is broken.Pieces of glass are shattered everywhere on the floor.Broken bottles of whiskey are scattered everywhere and the cushions are torn apart with the table lying upside down on the ground. The house is a complete mess.Seven had just come from a meeting late when he saw the door was wide open. He found that a bit odd since he knew I was away for the funeral. On entering, his eyes almost popped out of his pockets.Seven and Ren are standing behind me, shook by the utter mess of the whole house."You should call the police," Seven suggests."The police?" Ren opposes. "Why call the police? This is clearly a case of burglary.""Exactly the reason you should call the police," Seven insists."The police won't help with anything... Infact, calling them is just a waste of time honestly..."That's Ren."But atleast they'll try and catch w
He has changed so much.Over the three years, he has grown much older. His whole head is gray and so is his beard on his crinkly skin."Why are you back?"That's the first question he asks me the moment I sit opposite him at the coffee table."This was not the agreement."I look at Mr. Jean right in the eye and say, "I didn't want to come back. But I had to."He glares at me."You broke our agreement," he retorts. "I gave you money for you to disappear forever then you come back looking for my son again?""I didn't know he was in this town, I swear!""I might be old but doesn't mean I'm stupid, kiddo. I give you money, you disappear then you come back years later and you go back to working for the same boss, my son. It can't be a coincidence. I know what you
I look at the watch. It's 9:30pm.It has been three hours since I started working on the project that needs to be presented at the boardroom tomorrow.I know this is all CJ's doing. To punish me.Working for longer hours yet he's not paying me for the extra time.Slowly by slowly, I hate him even more. I know what I did was wrong but he has been a heartless monster ever since I started working here.I'm feeling sleepy as I switch off my computer and stand from my desk, relieved that I finally got the project done. But at the same time, haggard and very exhausted. As I am strolling at the deserted hallway, holding my handbag, CJ appears out of nowhere like the ghost he is.Wait, what the fuck is he still doing at work?He should be gone by now. Atleast everyo
I flip the door open.Heaven fakes a wide grin."Aren't you going to let me in?""What do you want?" I ask flatly."I want us to talk," she says sharply. "Woman to Woman."I am hesitant for a moment then I let the door wide open."Make it fast."I escort her to the sofa and watch as she sinks in it."Mmh, nice sofa."I cross my arms against my chest, still standing."Please get to the point."She looks at me blankly. "It's about CJ."Obviously.Heaven continues. "I know everything. About you and him. About your wedding. About you standing him up at the altar. He didn't tell me. I dug that shit up on my own," she pauses and looks me up and down. She resumes. "I'm not here for a catfight or any sort of confrontation. I'm here to have a nice talk with you. And beg you to stay away from him. You had him. Now it's my turn to have him."I'm shook by her bluntnes
