No, Luca. I can't marry you.

Those words reverberated in his head. Over and over. Throwing him into denial. Because there was no way Skylar could've said that. His mind had to be playing tricks on him.

And yet he looked her into her eyes, took in the tears that suddenly shimmered in those grey depths, and reality hit him hard like a slap.

"I... I don't... I don't get it." He chuckled a bit because it was the only reaction he could think about when his mind was still reeling with bewilderment. "You can't marry me? You don't want to marry me? You...You don't want to spend your life with me?"

"I want to. I want to spend my life with you, Luca." She croaked.

Feeling an anchor of hope in a sea of fear, Luca held on and clung to it , hoping she would pull him out before the sea eventually knocked him under.

Stepping forward, he took her face between his palms. "So you agree to be my wife?"
