Who Is Your Mate?

Leanda's body convulsed as if in the grip of an invisible hand. She arched her back and threw her head back, her eyes squeezed shut in pain. She whimpered, the sound coming out muffled and low from her throat. Sweat broke out on her forehead and her body was wracked with shivers. It was as if her body was on fire, and the agony was unbearable.

She began to rub her arms and legs with her hands, desperate to ease the pain. Tears streamed down her face, mixing with the sweat. "It hurts, it hurts so much," she cried out.

Chloe and Avi sprang into action, trying to help Leanda. Chloe went to the cell door and banged on it with all her might, calling out for the guards. Avi followed suit, hoping to catch their attention. But there was no response from the other side of the door.

The minutes ticked by, each one more agonizing than the last. Finally, the guards arrived, holding the key to the cell in their hands. They made no move to open the door, instead wa
