23. A Surprise Honeymoon.

JAMES.

[At the courthouse]

"Can you smile a little, it's your wedding day for goodness sake," My father nudged me on the shoulder while we stood at the courthouse waiting for Chloe and her father to show up.

I clenched my jaw and glared at him. "This is not a wedding, Dad. This is a farce. A political move to secure an alliance with the Tennyson pack. Don't expect me to act like I'm happy about it."

He sighed and shook his head. "James, you know this is necessary. We need their support in the upcoming war. And Chloe is a fine young lady, you could do worse."

I snorted. "I could do better, too. Like not getting married, for instance..."

He opened his mouth to argue, but then he saw Alpha Tennyson's car arrive. He quickly composed himself and smiled. "There they are. Come on, son. Let's greet them."

I felt a surge of annoyance at my father's utterance but I hid my emotions with a straight face.

This was just a marriage of convenience and not of love.
