Chapter 29

Melvin wandered along the desolate street. Lamp posts flickered as he walked past. No sight of stars. No shadows of humans. He lost his footing and tripped over the uneven bricks of the cracked pavement. At this point, he didn't know what to do or where to go anymore.

Should he go back to the Watsons? Would he be alive, then? Would he still be the old Melvin if they were aware of his real identity?

He didn't know, but the answer was most probably a no. Things wouldn't be the same anymore no matter how hard he wanted them to be. He couldn't change the truth that he was a fallen angel.

His expression immediately hardened when he sensed footsteps approaching from behind.

"Let's go home," said the voice. "Your real home."

At first, he was reluctant to move. The countless lives and pearls laid in his hand, never in a million times he thought he'd regret craving for them until Melvin stepped into his demonic life.
