CHAPTER 4

CARLA

"You must be joking. Carla is your sister?" Pedro asked, almost laughing at what Diego had said.

"Diego Smith, brother to Carla Parker? This is the most expensive joke in the world." Jessica laughed out.

Their reaction to Diego's word didn't bother me. I was more concerned about why Diego would refer me as his sister.

Did he have a change of heart after remembering our parents are getting married?

"Stop this joke, Diego. This is not funny."

"You'll know the difference between funny and serious when I get you and your handmaid troubling Carla again," Diego said, displaying his arrogant nature at Pedro and Jessica.

For the first time I found Diego's arrogant nature pleasing to my ears.

The looks on Jessica's face, when he called her a handmaid, left me smiling with delight.

"I won't repeat myself again."

"Are you threatening me? " Pedro asked, unable to hide his shock anymore.

That's when I felt Diego's hand falling on my shoulder. It sent my body vibrating, as I lifted my eyes to look at my soon to be step brother.

"You've been warned. Let's go Carla, " Diego said.

He took hold of my hand, walked out of Pedro and Jessica's sight with me following him from behind.

Staring at this stubborn man in front, I felt nothing but joy taking over my heart. He just appeared from nowhere and placed those two in a shock mode.

I felt thrilled.

Eyes fell on Diego and I, as he kept walking away with me without minding the gaze of the students around.

"That's Diego Smith!"

"He's with her?"

"Are they lovers?"

"I heard him call her his sister. I didn't know they were related."

"Waw, she's so lucky."

Butterflies danced within me, followed by courage engulfing all around.

With pride, I drew myself closer to Diego, cupping my arm around his, as we walked together.

I looked at him and found his dazzling green eyes on me. He gave a killer smirk, navigating his eyes forward.

"Thank you so much Diego. Even though I still detest you, I like the fact that you and I are going to be family. Your image is just what I need to get back on my feet." I smiled, showing myself so everyone can see me.

Diego took me to his car, opening up the door for me. I stepped in, sitting inside like I own it.

It's the first time I'll be stepping into his car. If not because of the fact that his father is getting married to my Mom, there's no way he's going to allow me enter or even touch his car.

He got into the car and drove off, leaving everyone back at Crescent college, gawking.

"How was my entrance? I guess I came at the right time to the battlefield," Diego said, driving.

I faced him, asking, "Why are you here?"

"Is that a way to say thank you?" He lifted his brow at me, giving that nasty glare.

"You will only get that when I get my answer. Why did you come to my school? Is it to see me or to see your friend?" I questioned.

"Don't push it, " He said, stopping his car right at the corner of the road.

Diego faced me and said, "I didn't come over to see you nor Pedro. I just happen to pass by coincidentally. So, I thought of stopping by to see what my step sister is doing. Is that a crime?"

He tilted his head.

I don't know if I should believe him or not, but I can't help but feel glad that he came.

What he did to Pedro and Jessica brought a smile to my face.

The sight of Jessica holding Pedro angered me deeply. She's not even ashamed of the fact that she's dating my boyfriend.

Everyone knows me as Pedro's girlfriend, but now Jessica has taken that spot.

If Diego hadn't shown up to threaten Pedro, I wouldn't have seen that glitter in his eyes.

Yes, Pedro is jealous to see Diego with me.

He couldn't believe it when Diego called me his sister.

I know how to make him suffer more.

"Are we now going with the silent treatment?" Diego asked, bringing me to my sense.

He rolled his eyes at me, starting the car and driving ahead.

What's up with him anyway?

Just because he silenced Pedro and Jessica, he won't allow me to rest.

Gosh! I can't believe I'm doing this.

"Thank you," I appreciated, trying to make it sound believing while facing the other way.

"It's a bit late, but it's fine."

"I'm going to need your help again," I said, turning over to find his eyes on me already.

"What kind of help?" He asked, giving that suspicious look.

"It's a simple task. I want you to help me get Pedro jealous. Like I want to use you to annoy him," I explained myself to Diego.

He carefully drove his car to a corner, parking it again just to face me.

"You want your step brother to help you in making his friend jealous?" He asked, lifting his brow at me.

Why is he emphasizing on that word now?

"Yes, I want to make Pedro jealous of me. That's the only way I can make him regret ever leaving me for that cheer leader. I want him to crawl back to me, begging me to come back to his life, " I said, visualizing the whole scene.

"Will you help me?" I asked.

That's when I saw his eyes shimmer at me. The sight of that took my mind back to that day at the hotel, when I asked Diego to help me out.

A chilling wave ran down my spine, as I asked myself if I'm doing the right thing. But before I could ponder on it, Diego stretched his hand out at me, agreeing to my plan.

"I will help you, if that's what you want," He said, letting out a smile.

“You have a deal.” His hand came closer.

Since I needed this to work out for me, I took hold of Diego's hand, accepting the deal.
