Selene:The Trap

"I have an idea of where they took her, there aren't a lot of hidden areas on Gabriel Island. Don't leave this house until I return!" Nathaniel rushed over after Selene told him about Heather. Morgan and Selene open their mouths to object, but he interrupts."No! It is too risky for either of you. I had a friend cast an anti-protection spell around the tree, so don't step out of that door!"

'Nathaniel, you're paranoid!" Selene had to draw the line at the barrier spell.

Nathaniel scoffs. "Little girl, I haven't protected you enough. As soon as I come back with Heather, we are leaving. Stay here until I return!"Nathaniel disappears in a cloud of dust.

Morgan pulls his hair and yells, punching the wall. Selene jumps in surprise. "Morgan, chill out! You're not the only one stuck here!"

"I'm sorry, Selene! Goddess! I feel helpless. I should be the one finding her. She's my mate, and I can't protect her."Selene wraps her arms around him. "It's okay. Heather is strong, and Nathaniel will have her here by twilight."

Morgan kisses the top of Selene's head. "Your right. I'm no good to her if I'm angry."

Selene plops on the large sofa. "Want to watch that human crime show? We haven't watched an episode in months."

Morgan chuckles at his friend. Selene had always been his rock when he was scared, with a comforting word and hug or some nonsensical human show.

A knock on the door interrupts their short tv marathon. Sharing a quizzical look, the male faerie gets to his feet and squeezes Selene's hand, a silent tell for her to stay. He ambles to the door, opening it slowly.

Relief flashes on his face at the visitor. "Nathaniel! Did you forget something?"

Selene can hear Nathaniel's voice on the other side of the door. "I got a tip about Heather. They are keeping her at the sacred temple. Meet me there in thirty minutes."

"Why don't we go together? Why have us meet you there?" Morgan widens the door for Nathaniel to enter.

"I have to go. Meet me in the middle of the temple-by the stone."

Morgan shuts the door. Something was odd in Nathaniel's demeanor, but he was too distracted by finding Heather to notice. "You heard him, Selene! Let's go!"

Selene feels hesitant about leaving."Nathaniel told us to stay here, Morgan. Why would he suddenly change his mind?"

"I don't care, Selene! If Heather is there, I will take the chance." Morgan growls.

Selene backs away from him. Since when did Morgan growl at her? Was this some side effect from their mating bond?

"I'm sorry, Lena." Morgan runs a hand through his hair.

"Let's go save her." Selene swallows her doubts. Her best friend is more important.

Morgan doesn't wait, jumping off his porch, his gossamer wings catching him mid-air. He speeds into the forest, rustling trees in his wake.

"Wait up, Morgan!" Selene mirrors his jump, rapidly following his trail. They land in front of the temple within minutes, Morgan running inside before his friend can stop him.

"Morgan, wait!" Selene follows on his heels. She rams into his back when he suddenly stops in front of the shimmering purple stone. "What the hell, Morgan?" Morgan doesn't reply, his body frozen.

"Morgan?" Selene walks around to face him. Morgan's eyes are glazed over, staring at the wall ahead. "Morgan?" She waves her hands in front of his face. Worry rises at her friend's odd behavior. She frantically looks around, searching for some hidden clue to bring him back.

In a dark corner of the dilapidated temple, Cleo hides behind a broad column chanting a spell. Selene is proving quite challenging to enchant. The mysterious woman has thrown a wrench in every spell Cleo attempted. The girl's hidden power proved tricky to overpower, it guarded against dark magic.

When Cleo told The Elders about Selene's power, their desire to claim her grew. A child born from Selene would have tremendous control over the realms! Finally weeks after she searched every grimmoire for a enchantment, she had found a potent one for Selene. Time to begin the end of the faerie race!

Selene's eyes are drawn to the glowing stone. A rainbow of colors swirls inside the heart of the gem. Selene becomes transfixed with the dancing colors, feeling a fog wrap around her. What pretty colors! Selene smells a heavenly scent-one of campfire and chocolates. She turns her head toward the alluring scent and sees the most beautiful man. He was tall and fit, with sapphire eyes and medium-length messy brown hair. And Goddess, that sexy smirk. "Mate," the husky voice lures her.

"Mate." she mimics, moving closer to claim his lips. Behind the pillar, Cleo cackles. Time to finish the final part of the plan.
