***Daphne Pov***

We lunged forward now covered by two Queens , Adam and Casey and the warrior Anthony. We had spotted the witch who was huddled away slightly runes on her skin glowed as she chanted. I raced towards her and she saw me. We made brief eye contact before a wall of fire surrounded her. I paused unable to advance now I could feel the heat from her barrier and not knowing what to do now the book sensed my scared feelings and it flipped itself open.

"Daphne." Max's nervous voiced filled my head but it was drowned out as another familiar ethereal voice rang a wind wrapped around me and Max separating us from Viola and Lucinda. The wind was like a tornado whipping my hair angrily across my face. Max in fear had transformed back to his human form and only the snap of his bones told me he was right beside me.

"The grimoire will protect you and Max Daphne" the voice spoke.

"Why?" I asked
