Chapter 55

"Were you living here all this time? I thought you are dead by now," Was the first sentence her dad fully said as she invited him inside and asked him to sit.

"I've missed you too, Dad," She joked lightly, shaking her head.

After a short conversation of checking on her, and asking her if she was all right, the tricky part came next. She realized this when her dad narrowed his eyes and for the first time began to look around with a tense frame, she thought he was beginning to notice a stronger presence in the house.

While her adoptive mom was the outgoing and talkative one, he was quiet and watchful, but when her dad had to talk or was angry, he could be the most intimidating man ever. Over the past few years, being alone with her father made her realize that he could be a monster if he wants but she couldn't tell how he and Zander would do in the same room.

And that last thought made her uneasy.

"So… You found your mate, is that true?" Her dad asked with a serious look on his face.
