CHAPTER FORTY - TWO

Michael’s POV

The night air was thick with tension as Hercules and I stepped out of the car, our footsteps echoing as we made our way to the house.

The night still seemed young. My brother’s eyes burned with a mix of anger and disappointment.

“You can’t just decide like that, Agnar." Hercules growled, his eyebrows bristling with agitation.

I met his gaze, feeling the weight of my own decision pressing on me. “Hercules, I knew Jake would not win. I knew his weakness.”

His growl deepened. "But at what cost? You’re putting the pack in danger. What if Jake had won? What will you tell the pack? He would immediately be enslaved if he were the king of Alpha. I can’t believe you almost willingly put us under his rule.”

I clenched my fists, frustration coursing through me. “This is bigger than what it seems, Hercules. I needed to put Jake in his place. That way, he would not be a pain in our necks.”

Hercules glared at me. His nose flared.

“Is this about—"

“About what?” I glared at him. I knew
