Lisa bent her head forward. “Do you remember what I said to you?”

“Which ones?” I asked.

“When we said our pledges ….”

I nodded. Realizing that she couldn’t see my nodding, as I was behind her, I said, “Yes.”

“I promised you I would love and care for you. I also said you were my life.”

I kissed her shoulder. “Yes, I won’t forget your words. They are beautiful.”

“Lisa! Lisa! Why?”

She stopped walking. “My promise means everything to me. It will never change for me. You are my life. If letting you go is the only way for you to live, it’s what I must do.”

Lisa bit her lower lip and then shook her head. “It’s no use. Father is the one who makes all decisions.”
