Chapter 81: A Truce

I thought we were cool. I meant Jack was nicer now, but apparently, I was wrong. He was still a jerk! How could I forget he was my enemy? Argh! I wanted to slap him to erase his smirk. But I only pretended I didn’t hear what he said and looked around the street.

He said nothing when he finally parked the car. When I got out of the car, I gasped to see we would head to a steakhouse. It was the best and the most expensive steak restaurant in Moon City. I bit my lower lip. What should I do?

Before saying I was not hungry, my stomach growled again. I shut my eyes in frustration because I couldn’t afford to pay, even the cheapest steak here. Yes, Jack offered to pay for the dinner, but who knew if he lied?

Noticing nothing, Jack stood beside me. He held the small of my back and nudged me to move. “You must be hungry. Eat as much as you can. My treat tonight.”
