Unravelling

“Dad,” Jasper knocked on the door of Sebastian’s office and opened it at the same time. Jonathan Kensy and Sebastian broke off their quiet and intense conversation and looked up at him, startled. “Oh,” Jasper retreated a step. “Sorry. I interrupted.”

“It’s fine,” Sebastian rose to his feet, the palms of his hands pressed flat to the table. “We will talk about what to do in half an hour Jonathan, after I’ve spoken with Jasper about… Something important. Go, grab a coffee. Anastasia and Charlotte are probably still at the breakfast table.”

Jonathan nodded politely in greeting as he passed Jasper.

“Is something wrong?” Jasper asked as Sebastian sighed heavily, massaging his thumbs into his temples as if to relieve a tension headache.

“Yes,” Sebastian said without hesitation. “There was a death at the fight last night. Were you aware of it?”

“Oh,” Jasper felt his stomach sink. “A fight broke out as I was leaving… And I heard sirens. But I was told it was normal. That sort of thing happens
