Violet turns towards me, worry shining in her blue eyes, as she asks, “How is this possible?”

I look down at my sister and say, “I don’t know. Perhaps you’d like to share with the rest of the room?”

Beatrix narrows her eyes at me as she looks up and hisses in response. I roll my eyes and Violet shakes her head in annoyance and says, “We should put her in the room before the rest of the house wakes up.”

I nod in agreement, we only have a few hours left until daylight breaks. I look to Magnolia and Charlie and say, “Stay here, we’ll be back soon.”

I pull my sister up and then wrap some rope into her mouth and I tell her in a low commanding voice, “Don’t get any smart ideas.”

I see panic shining through her eyes, I never thought there would be a day that she feared me like this. I never wanted her to fear me like this, but she shoul
