A new home

Being alone meant thinking, and thinking brought unhappiness. I couldn't stop thinking about Rose and Ren. Where were they?

If there was a thing I was glad about, it was that they had been taken before my parents got killed. I couldn't imagine what watching the murder of their parents would have done to them.

They were children who had always been around family and friends. They were having a hard time and it hurt that I could not do anything to save them. I could only hope they were in the pack. That was so much better since they would be around familiar places.

Maybe if I appeased my new owner and worked hard enough, he'd grant me my freedom, and I would search for my family.

My train of thought was interrupted when the door opened. A woman in maid's uniform walked in and dropped a pile of clothes on the bed. Except the green towels and black underwear, the rest were identical to hers.

“I see you're awake,” she said. “Take a shower and get to work. The bathrooms are at the end of the hallway.”

“Where am I?”

“Blackmoon pack,” she said. “From today, you will be cleaning the workmen's rooms, washing their clothes and cooking for them. When you are ready, in less than thirty minutes, someone will come and guide you to your first task.”

From her bundle of keys, she pulled out a single one and tossed it to the bed. “It opens your door. Keep it safe. You’ll be provided with other things later.”

The lady left immediately.

Blackmoon pack. I had heard about it from some girls. Alpha Aragon's daughters had travelled there. When they returned, they were smitten with the son of Blackmoon pack's alpha. Soon every girl in the pack had heard about the handsome Ridian.

Hearing about it, I was curious to see the man that had enthralled two of the most beautiful girls I had ever seen.

I grabbed the towel and made my way out of the room. I saw the bathroom sign at the end of the hallway and headed there. Once inside, I saw five bathroom stalls and five toilets. There were a few pieces of soap above the sink. Grabbing one, I went into one of the stalls and took of my clothes.

The shirt had dried against my wounded back and removing it was extremely painful. I cried out as I got rid of it. I could smell medicine on it. Whoever had changed my clothes had probably applied something on my back. I ran the shower but avoided standing under it because I didn't want to get my back wet.

I washed what I thought was necessary, dried myself and left. At the sink, I put water in mouth and swished it around then spit out before using the towel to clean my teeth. Considering I had not yet received a toothbrush, I had to use what I had in hand.

The dresses were of the same size, a little extra on me. After dressing, I stepped out of the room and locked it, eager to go out and study my new surroundings.

I met another girl wearing the maid's uniform, the same color as mine. She had brown hair and pretty facial features.

“Letti,” she said, stopping in front of me. “And you're?”

“Cilla,” I told her, assuming Letti was her name.

“You look good,” she said, staring at me from head to toe. “Suits you.”

“Thanks,” I said and followed her. I saw another building next to ours, looked similar.

“For the men,” she said. The two buildings were built like school dorms. There was a long wall fence with silver barbed wire at the top of it. I was pretty sure it was laced with wolfs bane as well.

We came to a shed with concrete slab that I assumed was for handwashing.  In our pack, it was only the alpha's house with a washing machine brought from the human world. It was never used because of lack of power. They had wanted to use a solar powered object but alpha Aragon threw all those out when he took over power. He and his beta killed his father because he had been trying to bring a lot of modernization he did not appreciate.

“This is where you will be doing the washing from,” Letti said but did not stop walking. “This is the kitchen.”

The kitchen was quite small, and there was smoke coming out of it. Some women were arguing and they came out. They continued to argue, something to do with stick pans, non-stick pans, permission etc.

“You'll be helping those lovely ladies in the kitchen,” Letty told me. “Now that you know everything, come with to my room. I'll give you lotion, toothpaste and whatever else you might need.

We were about to turn when a group of loud, rowdy men came through a path under the trees. They were laughing and talking loudly. Their blue overalls were dirty, filled with brown and black stains that seemed to be difficult to rid of.

“Your work first thing tomorrow morning will be to wash those overalls and make sure they're immaculate. They will remove and leave them here. You will soak them overnight. They'll be easier to wash.”

“Letti,” a tall skinny lad yelled as he approached is. “Who is this beauty?”

“Cilla,” Letti said to him.

Suddenly, a blood curdling scream pierced the air. I knew that scream. Maryanne.

“Maryanne and Angela are here too?” I asked Letti.

“I don't know her name but let's go see her.”

“Aren't they two?”

“Two slave girls were brought here. You and that one screaming her head off.”

Letti opened a room, and grabbed a bundle of keys. Coming out, she opened the door next to hers.

Maryanne was seated on the bed, tears rolling down her reddened cheeks.

“I want to see, Angie.” she said, glancing at me.

“I don't know who this Angie is but she's not here.”

“Where the hell is she?” Maryanne said, standing up before running out of the room. Letti and I ran after her.

“Maryanne,” I called out but she did not stop running.

We followed. We found her outside in the arms of one of the workmen. She was trying to resist but he held her in place.

“Get a grip on yourself, girl.” He yelled.
