CAIN
Alpha, Cain, why don't you appear pleased after rescuing your Luna? I thought you'd been longing to meet her for years?”
“Do I look like I'm not content? Of course, I am.”
“No, you can't fool me, I know you, Cain.”
“What do you want me to say?”
“That you're into your mate, or not; it's as easy as that.”
“Fine, would you accept it if I said I was keen on her?”
“Considering who you are, I can barely credit this. You two just met a few days ago, and I remember you saying you'd never marry Fox's daughter due to a marital agreement. Dude, I don't think this will be beneficial for you now.”
“I don't know. Quit interrogating me, Fox, you're aware I do not have an answer.”
My beta and I were still discussing the Luna when suddenly we heard screams.
Fox and I gave each other swift looks before dashing out of the room.
“Do you suppose there's an ambush?”
“That's not an ambush,” I informed Fox, pausing momentarily.
“Oh, just someone who broke the pack rules again, I guess?” Fox replied casually.
It had been a while since the pack had made such a fuss about pack sinners.
“What? You mean the soon-to-be Luna's sister said that?”
I overheard some other pack members discussing it.
I glanced back at Fox, who seemed to be thinking the same thing as me.
“What do you think is going on out there?” Fox asked, although we were both standing just outside the door and could easily see what was happening.
I had never been particularly interested in the consequences of pack sins; that was a job for my mum to handle.
“Why don't you head out there and find out who this sinner is?” I suggested to Fox.
“Come on, Cain” he urged me. “You're already here, so you may as well go discover who it is.”
“Nah, I don't feel like it,” I said as I made my way out of the crowd. Then, I heard Rosa asking the sinner the same question she asked before administering punishment. This always made me curious to find out what would happen if the sinner refused to obey the judgment.
“Diane, are you ready to accept your punishment?”
Diane? Is that her name? What could she have done so soon after they were rescued?
After much contemplation, I decided to turn around and find out. As soon as I looked at her, something stirred in my heart. I had never felt this way before. She kept her gaze on me, and I was equally entranced by her. Her hair blew in the wind, and some of it covered a part of her face. The moment felt like an eternity, and neither of us looked away.
I stared down at her lips. I've never seen such a beautiful woman before. Her lips were perfectly lined just for kissing. I wondered if she had kissed men in the past. If so, I wonder who could have taken her first kiss.
“Diane, will you accept your punishment?” Rosa asked a second time, distracting my feelings at that very moment. I clenched my jaw, but tried not to speak.
“Yes, I will,” she replied, still staring in my direction.
The whip was suddenly taken out. I took a glance at the whip, which was made with many thorns. For the first time, I saw what the punishment whip looked like.
I took another glance at the so-called sisters of the supposed Luna. She has this determined expression on her face. I could tell that she was fearless at one glance.
What crime did she actually commit? I didn't come in time to hear about her sins.
The first lash was administered to her skin, and she screamed out loud. That made my heart hurt terribly. I gasped silently.
What's happening to me? Why am I affected by her pain?
My gaze lingered on her lips. Never had I seen someone so beautiful. Her lips, just made for kissing, were perfectly lined. Had she kissed people in the past? I couldn't help but wonder who had taken her first kiss.
“Accept your punishment!” Rosa shouted as the whip struck her.
“I accept my sins,” she replied in a pained whisper.
The thorns from the whip had cut into her skin as I watched, and when the flogging was done, her back was covered in blood.
My heart ached for her, though I had no right to feel that way. My wolf had already found its mate, who is Gina. So, this girl, this Diane that I'd never heard of before, wasn't the one for me.
It's a strange sensation I can't explain.
As soon as she was given the last lash, I hurriedly turned and left the crowd, making my way to my office. Fox followed behind me.
“Goodness! Who was she? I've never seen anyone take so many strokes of the whip and remain so strong,” he said in amazement.
I couldn't answer him; my mind was in turmoil. Something about what happened seemed too strange to be coincidental. I couldn't have felt that way for her for no reason. There must have been more to it than met the eye.
“Alpha Cain, what is it? What's wrong?” Fox asked me.
I gave Fox a brief look and hurried to my seat.
“Nothing's wrong. We may as well pick up where we left off,” I said.
Fox made to leave, but I didn't feel I should let him go like that.
“Fox?” I called out to him, and he quickly spun around.
“Yes?”
“The step-sister we saved from the mirror moon pack, was she one of them?”
I asked, trying not to sound too interested.
“I believe she was,” Fox answered. “I think she was one of the ones we found with your mate.”
Who was she? What power did she have that caused pain to my wolf just from seeing her tortured?
“How come I never heard of the Alpha having another daughter?” I asked my beta.
“Give me a break, Cain. Have you forgotten you actually never wanted anything to do with the mirror moon pack or your fated mate?”
“Well, that's because I never believed in such things. And besides, I have been so busy lately.”
“You know, if I were you, I wouldn't be able to face my mate. You should have claimed your mate before now. This way, she wouldn't go through the pain she's going through now.”
I shut my eyes and heaved a long sigh.
Fox clearly does not understand what I'm going through right now. Yes, I've found my mate, but there's just this emptiness I feel when I'm around her. I don't feel the connection that was mentioned much when finally getting to meet a fated mate. I rather feel this deep attraction towards her sister. Could it be that something's wrong with me?
GINA I was dragged into the room where I was originally taken from. “Now you'll stay here and do exactly as you are told to.” I was pushed to the ground and the door was shut behind me with a loud bang. I winced in pain as I tried to get up and sit on my bed. My back was bleeding profusely. I could feel the rusty smell of my blood and my dress sticking to my open flesh. “Argh… I screamed loudly as the pains only seemed to have intensified. Why am I feeling so painful? I felt a burning pain and that pain was associated with what was coated with silver. If the whip was coated with silver, then these people would be cruel. I can't believe they would punish an offender with a silver-coated whip. I cried bitterly. I still can't imagine just how low I've sunk. I've always thought my parents would be with me for a long time, but the sudden attack on my neck happened, and in the twinkle of an eye, I lost everything that meant a lot to me. “Mom, Dad, what am I going to do without y
*******I've been in the flower department for a week now, and it's been filled with annoyance after Rosa yelled at me for not trimming the flowers well enough. I constantly have to change them to please this mysterious Alpha, who's apparently too in love with flowers.Thoughts of the mysterious Alpha made me forget my surroundings and, before I knew it, I had bumped into someone, and we'd both gone tumbling, the flowers between us. “Ouch!” I yelped at the pain, but the groan beneath me made me raise my gaze up. To my surprise, it was a man with familiar eyes that caused my wolf to stir.“Oh no, I'm so sorry!” I tried to get up while shielding the flowers from damage, but ended up falling again and catching his nose with my head.“Ouch! My nose!” he exclaimed.I was shaken. I can't believe what I just did in front of a stranger! I quickly stood up, relieved that nobody noticed my clumsiness. “What are you? A blind bat?” His deep voice sent chills down my spine. Who is this person wh
CAINMy head was messed up about everything going on around me. I needed to cool off. My wedding was just around the corner, and yet I didn't feel the need to get married, not that I didn't feel the connection. In fact, my wolf had declared her our mate, but why is it so hard for me to accept the fact that she was my mate?*Flashback*A Year Ago...“Cain, don't you think you've had enough of a solitary and carefree life? Why don't you let the promiscuous life go? It's time to assume the responsibilities of an Alpha."“You know I'm a very busy man. I have duties for the pack and my personal life. I don't have time for love now.”“No way, son, you are not fully the Lycan king unless you claim your true Luna. Your Luna isn't an ordinary Luna; she's the scarlet witch. This is an opportunity that comes once every century. "You are destined to be great, and hence you must find your other half to fulfill your destiny, son.”I hope my mother will understand that I'm not ready to see my mate
DIANEThe fact that Gina was going to investigate the case made me restless. What if she goes around snooping for clues? Will that further make things difficult? What am I supposed to do then? I need to stop her before she does anything stupid to sabotage my plans.I looked in the mirror, and stared at the mark on my chest. The Scarlet seal, which I was able to snatch from Gina. If I hadn't been shown the method through which I could actually steal the seal, I might have been the one taking on Gina's position. Maybe I might be the one serving her like a maid.Good thing I was capable of succeeding in my plans. Though the half moon shaped scarlet seal burns my skin from time to time, so long as I can use the proper ointment which I was given, it somehow reduces the pain and redness. By the way, that symbol is not something that can be easily seen by outsiders, since the symbol was originally located at the top of my breastbone.“I have a message for you, miss Diane,” someone said t
CAIN “I uhm, I'm here to keep you company.” I said rather briefly. “Keep me company? I don't think there's anything I actually need your assistance for.” I said rather dryly. She suddenly walked up to my desk. Though she boldly walked into my office, I could sense how nervous she was. “I know you might actually not need my help right now, but, I think it's good to have some alone time with you, since we'll be getting married soon.” The moment the words left her lips, I had no idea what came over me, but I suddenly felt repulsed. She's my mate, for goddess’s sake, and I shouldn't be feeling this way. “Gina, I know this is crucial for both of us, but don't you think we are taking this too far?”“Pardon?” She said. I heaved a long sigh and left what I was working on, so I could focus on her. “I know you're my mate, and as my mate, I know you want to be married and take your rightful place by my side, but don't you think we're far too distant for a marriage now?”“Uhm, Alpha Cain,
DIANE I paced in my room with heavy thoughts on how to persuade Alpha Cain from pursuing the case. I didn't want him to find out about the death of my father and the rest of the pack. That will be too much, and it will only put me in danger. Now I wonder if Gina had perhaps told the Alpha something, which he was acting upon. That is the only way to describe the situation. Else, why would he suddenly want to help her find the killers of her parents? He must not want to get married, and hence he was looking for every means possible to break off from the marriage. No way! Now I see where this is going. That traitor! I should have known she never meant anything good. I should have known this was what she had in mind against me. She must wanted to prove her identity so badly and even went as far as going back on her word. Well, since it has come to this, I'm uncertain if I'll be showing her any mercy from now on. Now that I still have the support of the people, I need to grab hold of t
GINA“No, I've never been to Gina's room, let alone steal an earring.”“Are you sure about what you are telling me right now?”“I swear in my life, I've never stolen anything from my sister.” I didn't understand what was going on as to why the Luna was asking me all of those questions. I never stole from Gina. I took my gaze towards Diane only to see her staring at me with a wicked glint in her eye. For some reason, I find it weird that I'm being summoned because Diane lost an earring. “Okay, since you say you didn't steal the earrings, I'll have to send Rosa to your room to confirm your claims.”“Yes, you can do that, Luna,” I replied. But then, I realized that my confidence might be ruined. Why don't I feel so good about this? If I'm not mistaken, there's a possibility that the earrings can be found in my possession. I took another glance at Diane only to see her smirking in my direction.Oh, no! Did I just fall into Diane's trap? It can't be. She'd promised not to do things like
GINA “Arrrgh!!” I screamed as the silver chain dug into my flesh and burned me. I gritted my teeth as the pain surged deeper into my flesh and my bone. This was the worst punishment ever. In my pack, we do punish offenders, but no one has ever undergone the silver chain torture. This was the cruelest punishment ever given. How could they punish me for what I didn't even do? This was the height of it all. I shut my eyes and tears poured like rain hitting my face. “Mom, dad, what am I going to do? I cannot die like this. I need to find out about those who caused the fall of our pack. Furthermore, I cannot stop until I have brought them to book.” I said in my thoughts as tears ran down my cheeks. *****It's been more than a day since I've been locked in the dungeons without food or water. My throat has gone dry and my lips scaly. I could hardly move my eyes because I was so weak, coupled with the fact that I never ate before I got punished. Is this the end for me? Just as I was think
