When I open my eyes the next morning, I am alone in bed.

Disappointed I look around, Zane is nowhere to be seen. When I turn next to me, I see a note and a lonely white Lely on the pillow beside me. With a smile, I pick up the flower and smell it. It's still fresh, so Zane went out and picked it from the wild to surprise me.

When I unfold the note, I see his strong handwriting.

‘My mate. I don't have enough words to tell you how much I love you. Last night was breathtaking. You are so perfect, you are my heart and my life. Know I'm waiting for you. Always yours. Zane'. I read the words over and over again, it is not that he says them to me for the first time. But after last night, everything he says is worth a lot more. I stay in bed for another half hour, enjoying his lingering scent. Last night I finally became his mate in the true meaning of the word. We mated, at last.
