Dante's POV

It had been a week since Dad and the Elders were killed. Every day that passed, the pain in my chest lessened a little, but the guilt very much overpowered the grief. I had to live the rest of life knowing that I was the reason he was killed. Not only was I being irresponsible when it happened, Jett seemed to target him because of me.

Jasmine took his death harder than I did, but Mom hadn't been out of bed since she felt it happen. The death of a mate is said to be the most painful thing a wolf ever experiences and most don't survive it. I was grateful that my mom was one of the few who did; I didn't know what I would do if I lost both parents on the same day.
