Shit. Fuck. Shit.

I didn’t have much time. I didn’t even know if I would make it out of the house. I had to try. He left the door open. His mistake.

I had nothing other than the clothes on my back and the bandages on my feet, but it doesn’t stop me.

Keeping my eyes in front, I refuse to look back. It was clearly the reason I fell in the forest and I wasn’t making that mistake again.

Jumping the final few steps, I land painfully on my feet and let out the tiniest whimper when I hear my name roared from upstairs.

Making a beeline for the front door, I rip it open, feeling the rush of warm air. Wolves were scattered everywhere and my heart plummets. Somehow, I had forgotten about them. Still, I don’t stop, letting my feet pound the driveway as wolves charge after me.

I could feel them, close on my heels. Centimetres away from locking their jaws around my ankles. Though not once do I hear a snap or a snarl.
