CHAPTER 34: No One Needs to Know

"Don't you want me anymore?" I asked with a trembling voice as his words finally registered in my mind.

I couldn't accept that after all the trouble I went through, it would just end up with him asking me to go back to the castle, and I was guessing that he would tell me next to forget about him.

"What? What do you..." He asked, looking confused, and for some reason, a few seconds later, his face shone as if finally realizing what I said, which, to be honest, I didn't know how my question could be confusing.

"Do you think I was trying to get rid of you?" he asked.

"Isn't that what you meant when you told me that I needed to go back to the castle?"

"You're mistaken, Martina. Yes, I wanted you to go back to the castle so you could have a better rest and also so you could still proceed with your role as the island's mistress," he explained, which still didn't make sense to me.
