Chapter Twenty-Five: Anticlimactic.

"How can she get to school this late?"

His mother questioned as she plated a second helping for him.

It was his fault; firstly, he waited till the afternoon to travel, and secondly, at her insistence that she wished to visit his mother, he made the trip home first as opposed to school.

On all counts, he knew that he was at fault.

He couldn’t ‘not’ yield to her.

Even if it meant that he would pick Ruby up late.

"I need to go pick up my wife."

"The wife you will not introduce us to?”

His mother asked as she shook her head, something she always did when she assumed he was telling a lie.

Without awaiting his defence, she continued.

“Adrian, have you ever seen Elaine ask for something?"

He sighed before answering his mother.

"No."

"Then, let her stay the night with us. The whole family missed her, and she is a top student, so-"

"So, I can catch up easily."
