Chapter Fifty-Six: Aching feeling

DEVYN’S POV

Carrying her in my arms, she nestled into my chest and I felt my heart racing, certain she could hear its rapid beats.

An unfamiliar sensation stirred in my heart as I felt held onto her petite frame, one I couldn't quite grasp or explain.

Glancing at her, I couldn't get over how fragile she felt in my arms. The moment I found her submerged in the water, my heart had threatened to leap out of my chest. I hurried to her faster than I could comprehend.

Yet, when I pulled her out, she glowered at me with those enchanting amber eyes, as if mad that I had pulled her out of the water.

I didn't register the exact moment I kissed her. As she yelled, pounding against my chest, I allowed it. But when she gazed at me, impulsively, I pulled her closer, crashing my lips into hers.

Her vulnerability had always amused me, and I meant that in a malicious way. Taunting her was a game to me. Yet, when she looked at me with tears streaming down her face, a painful pang struck my heart.
