KLAUS' POV
Morning came fast and we barely had enough sleep to go around but we couldn't afford to take extra hours. We were all seated at the dining table about to have breakfast. Jonas scoops a couple of pancakes from the tray Lisa drops on the table.
"Where's Kayden? I haven't seen him this morning." I say, taking the seat next to Tiffany.
"He's on the phone with Genevieve. They've been talking for an hour now." Lisa says, sounding worried.
It's been a while since I talked to Genevieve. I was supposed to give her regular reports about how we were dealing with the rogues but I have been too busy to do anything else.
Lisa drops the other tray in front of Tiffany, who smiles at her in gratitude. "Thank you. Isn't it too early for Genevieve to make calls? It should be five o'clock back home." Lisa asks.
Lisa nods solemnly. "The call surprised us too but Kayden figured she wouldn't have called if
KAYDEN'S POV"What do you mean by demigods exists?" Antoinette paces the entire length of the podium, her hands moving all over the place. Antoine's mouth is slightly parted, his head and posture rigid as he stares at me unblinking.I've seen enough movies and real-life scenarios to know how a person is supposed to act when someone tells them that another life exists somewhere in the universe. I grew up knowing that they existed and I am a descendant of one. While I understand that the shock is a natural reaction, I don't understand why it is hard for people to believe that earth isn't the only planet with life on it."I know this is a lot to take in at once." Antoinette nods her head in agreement as she continues to pace. "I understand how you're feeling because I reacted the same way also."Antoine rubs his hands over his face. "So you know when someone's expired from these creatures?"Blake answers
KLAUS' POVA door creaks. It's not one of the doors leading to the bedrooms, I'm facing them. Tiffany hears the sound also and she pulls away from me. It's one of the doors leading outside. Jonas shouldn't be coming inside by this time. We had an agreement. We both scamper off the couch and I retrieve the handguns on the table, just as two shadows spread on the stone floor. Maybe it was Kayden and Lisa, but why would they be moving like a ghost? If they were the ones, I was going to have to have to smack them in the head for getting me worked up. I hear footsteps around the corner before they appear in the living room, dressed in black clothes from head to toe, each wearing heavy protective gear and helmets. My eyes were drawn to their weapons, it looks like a gun but it isn't like any I've ever seen before.Tiffany fires first, the bullet hitting the first intruder in the chest without any harm. There's no way Jonas didn't hear th
KLAUS' POVMy back hurts and my muscles are tensed. I hear a thud followed by someone cursing. I force my eyes to remain open despite me still feeling drowsy as sleep tries to pull me back again. I try to look around, I'm stuck in the back of a van that's currently in motion. I struggle to sit up and I see Jonas lying just beside my foot, I didn't know if he was awake or not. I rub my eyes for a few seconds just before I hear a thud once more, my eyes follow the sound and I see Tiffany a few feet from me, slamming her hands into the van.I turn my gaze back to Jonas to check up on him, but I meet his dazed eyes. Tiffany mumbles something incoherent to herself, pulling her hair as she groans."Tiffany, hey." Talking is like trying to speak with your throat burning."Klaus, thank goodness." She sounds relieved like she's been expecting the worst already. "I thought you wouldn't be waking up anytime soon. I cou
LISA'S POV After we put our bags away in our different rooms, we gather around the dining table, and several printed copies of the map were spread out before us. They were a lot better than the previous ones we had, the new ones were well detailed and several missing parts of the previous one were included in this one. Tiffany hovers over one of the maps, taking a sip from her cup of coffee as she stares intently at one of the maps. Jonas lets out a long sigh. "I can't shake off this feeling but I can almost see something." "Is it something like a pattern?" I ask hopefully. Klaus stops what he's doing and joins Jonas to study his map. He shakes his head. "Maybe it's not a pattern. What if it's a symbol of some sort?" Klaus takes the map off the table, raising it towards the light, ruining whatever Jonas was doing. "If we can manage to figure out the pattern, we can put an end to
LISA'S POVKira's pale face and purple eyes smile at me when my blindfold is removed."Hello, Lisa. I've missed you." She says in a sing-song voice and it's almost as if I hear a multitude of people say my name in my head. I needed nobody to tell me that I'm in their headquarters. My mark itches slightly, my wrists still bound in handcuffs.Kira steps back and allows me to take in the view. I'm in a temple carved out of stone. It's terrifying and stunning as well. Great pillars were holding it erect. There are no windows and the place is rather cold. My pajamas would offer me no protection against the cold and it's not like I can ask Kira for some blankets. My mark continues to burn and I grit my teeth against the growing pain. I take another look around the place. How long have they been in France? Structures like this weren't built in a year or two. They have been planning their takeover right under all our noses
KLAUS' POVTiffany twists the map in front of her, trying to get another view. They got through to Denver somehow. You can't just throw twenty years of friendship down the drain. " "Jonas he says, massaging his temple against what I'm sure is a headache. I can feel my head throbbing already."How about you, Blake? Have you found anything yet? " I ask."Demigods are symbolic creatures, but I've been staring at the maps for hours now and I can't find anything with any resemblance to any of their symbols." He points towards the maps he's been working on. I can see several dots and lines, but no tangible lead yet. "Nothing is coming up.""Keep trying." I feel we're close to solving this puzzle. The letter B. I looked up to see Stefan motioning towards the kitchen. I stand, leaving our work and heading to the kitchen.I don't know about you, but I'm suggesting that we keep the Prime Alpha occupied at all times. His voice is rather hushed. He knows Epsilon, the Gregorian alphabet, and the r
Lisa's POVIt's been a day since I had dinner with Kira. It didn't go as well as I planned, but stabbing her in the chest with my fork was the highlight of the whole event. The sad thing is that the fork didn't go as deep as I would have wanted it to. Luke has been counting from zero to a hundred for hours now. He says it helps him remain focused. The cell doors opened with a bang, jolting me out of my train of thoughts. Kira strolls in, flanked on either side by Isabel and Annabelle. None of them spares us a glance. A few seconds later, Jane is being shoved into the cell room. Two guards grip one of her arms each, and despite her best attempts at struggling, she's thrown into the cell across from mine. I didn't know how France would respond to this. Capturing the head of their Central Intelligence Unit is a big win for them. One of the guards walks towards the cell next to mine where a woman they have abducted is being held, hostage. The woman scrambles back, screaming as the guard r
Kayden's POVI'm a few blocks away from my destination. I had the car drop me halfway there. I needed the walk to clear my head and to say goodbye to the world before I went under to die. Ahead of me, an older couple stands on the sidewalk huddled together. The sight gives me mixed emotions. I wanted to have a life like this with Lisa, but at the same time, it seemed impossible. As I pass a group of teenagers, dancing with reckless abandon and enjoying every moment of life, I'm terrified about what fate holds for me, but despite that, I feared for Lisa more. Right now, she is more important than I am. As well as my cousin, Luke, it is my duty to protect them all, and that's what I'm going to do.My heartbeat quickens with every step that brings me closer to the cave. I don't know if it's out of fear or if it's the possibility of seeing Lisa again, even if it's for a moment to assure her that she would be safe now and also to apologize. For a long time, I let Lisa suffer the scorn of t
