Chapter 6

Sophia Pov

“So you’re here with your friend and you forgot to invite the rest of the crew.” Jeremy said behind Laura.

I gave him a sorry kind of smile. “We didn’t mean to. We just trying to have girl’s time.” I said to him.

“ Nah. We don’t let down.” He said as he sat down beside an Laura and smiled sheepisly at her.

I looked back expecting Jacob to Join him but no one did. Normally, Jacob prefers to hangout around Jeremy during breaks and I can’t even tell how the weird friendship started.

“He is coming with a plus one. I hope you don’t mind Sophia.” Jeremy said as he watched my movement and gave me a wink.

All I could think of was every possible way to pull out his eye balls from his skull. He was such an annoying weasel. I don’t know how I keep mentioning him as a friend but he still was hell of a problem to me.

“Now that’s something. Sophia please say ‘yes’ because I definitely want to see this lady.” Laura said excitedly.

After I and Jacob had broken up, we didn’t really talk much about it even though Jeremy and Laura was clawing on our throats to get it the juice. I didn’t give in neither did I start dating again but since Jacob has really moved on to the point of bringing the lady to their lunch then I will have to do the same too.

“Hi everyone. Meet Miranda. Miranda these are my work friends; Laura, Jeremy and then Sophia.” Jacob said as he arrived with a strange young lady. Her eyes were light brown and so was her hair too. She’s slender and curvy in a way. She smiled at us all and I noticed a slash Mark across her upper lips.

“Nice meeting y’all. “ She said with an accent. She stared at me for a while before smiling. I felt self-conscious.

Jacob rubbed his hands together and sat down before digging into the food on the table. Normally we all pick a particular food for each day then make an order for all of us. So, whoever comes late doesn’t miss because his or her food is already on the table.

“So Sophia, you’re Jacob’s girlfriend.” The brownie I choose to call her now said to me after five minutes of awkward silence after introducing her.

I opened my mouth to answer but Laura cut me off.

“Ex-girlfriend. Didn’t Jacob tell you that or are trying to pick up a fight Miss?” She snapped at her.

“ Oh my bad.” Miranda pouted and looked at Jacob for whatever reason.

I felt a little bit uneasy. Why would a strange girl from nowhere try to pickup on me.

“Yes Miranda, I’m Jacob’s ex-lover. Do you have a problem with that?” I said to her and she turned back to look at me. Everyone has their eyes on both of us.

“That’s sad. I don’t know but he’s a nice guy and you shouldn’t have left for someone else.” She said to my face as she licked her sauce dipped finger.

“I don’t need any advice from strangers that are obsessed with troubles.” I said back.

“ Oh really? You haven’t even seen trouble yet. A lot more is coming.” She said oddly.” I frowned at her but I never said anything.

“You don’t look happy. What happened at work today?” Noah’s voice brought my attention to the plate I held in my hand as I was lost in thought about what Miranda said. I was trying to prepare dinner. I didn’t get to meet anyone when I got home.

“Where did you go? I didn’t see you when I got back and even your brother.”

I brought out the chicken and rice as I prepared the dinner.

“I went out for a run an hour before you return and for my brother, I don’t know. I thought you would tell me when you get back.” He said as he sat down on the kitchen table.

“What? You didn’t meet him in the morning?” I stopped and turned back at him. I didn’t understand what exactly Noah’s trying to say but I just didn’t want to believe my guts were actually right in the beginning.

“I only saw your breakfast. I didn’t meet him and he didn’t drop a message.” Noah said.

“ We need-“ before I could finish my sentence, the door opened and he walked in. More like he was dragging his body in, blood was dripping out on the tiled floor.

“Brother!”

Noah rushed to catch him before he hits the ground. He looks up at me with worried eyes.

“ First aid Sophia! He is loosing blood.” Noah said.

There was a ringing sound in my ears. I felt glued to the ground at first but Noah’s voice dragged me out of my head.

I grabbed towel and a bowl of water and pass it to Noah. I quickly rushed to the bathroom and get the first aid kit.

“ Gimme. I can do a neat sew. Just go look out for whoever his attacker is.” I said to Noah, shoving him out of the way.

He quickly ran out of the house into the night. I know the attacker must have gotten away but I knew he will be able to get a scent before the rain hits the ground and wash it off.

“I got a scent of blood and whiskey. It was strong enough to notice.” Noah said after he came in. I had finished sewing the wound and clean up the floor. His brother was lying down on the couch, sleeping.

“Blood and whiskey? That’s a clue that whoever the attacker is, must have been drinking.”

“ I also caught a scent of feminine perfume but it’s not so strong. It might be yours but I’m not so sure.”

“ What scent was it?” I asked my mind was reeling something in my head.

“Vanilla. Yeah I think that was that.”

I chuckled. I knew something was off. That’s why she said such picky words to me.

“What’s it Sophia? Do you know who?” Noah looked at me with all seriousness.

“ I met someone at lunch today. More like introduced to someone. “ I said as I pour water into the rice I was cooking. We had started cooking dinner again after finishing up with his brother’s arrival.

“Who? Who did you meet?”

“Jacob and my other work friends, do have lunch together. So surprisingly, Jacob brought someone else to the table.”

“ Who the hell is Jacob? You never talked about him “

I inwardly slapped myself. My relationship with Noah was still in the process and I didn’t even mention any past relationship with him.

“He was my boyfriend Last year.” I muttered but didn’t look at him.

“ Oh I understand.” He said.

“So he brought his new girlfriend at the table and turns out she’s all bitchy.” I said in summary.

He nodded. “ It’s okay Sophia. I’m not mad at you for hanging out with your ex boyfriend, you already started the tradition long before I came in your life. So don’t feel sorry.”

I smiled and nodded. He came and peeked me on my cheek.

“So where does this new lady falls in our current situation?” Noah asked after sometime. I almost forgot why I mentioned her .

“Right. She has the same perfume on and her last statement to me was very strange. As though she knows about us.”

“ What’s her name Sophia?”

My guts kicked in. “ Miranda”

“ Oh No. Brown eyes and hair?” He asked.

I nodded slowly . Shit.
