I avoided his gaze like it was the plague and ran my hand through my hair. “No,” I said quietly and quickly. His nostrils flared, and his eyes widened, anger clear as day on his face. “Are you fucking kidding me? You need to tell him Freja, he has a right to know, and Cain will protect you.”I huffed. “Yes, I know, and I will tell Cain after I find out who they are working with and what their plan is.” I needed to know these things before proceeding or telling anyone else, as that information may help us.

#Chapter53I headed towards the staircase, and as my foot was about to hit the first step, I stopped, feeling the urge to go into Calyx’s room, wondering if I could find more on him, something that may help me. I knew he was supposed to be meeting with Samara right now, and this would be my chance to sneak in there and get some answers. I looked all around me, carefully focusing on the darker areas. I didn’t see anyone around or hear anyone close by; I reared back from the stairs and cautiously walked towards Calyx’s bedroom. #Chapter54Feeling a little defeated and overwhelmed, I turned to Cain’s page and began reading. The page was detailed, speaking of his achievements and downfalls. As I continued to read, something caught my attention, Cain’s age; it said he was only 25. So I went back to Calyx’s page, and his age was 28. I sat back in the chair, a little confused as to why the younger son was Alpha and not the eldest. As far as I knew, it was always the older son who took the title of Alpha. So why was Cain Alpha and not Calyx? I remembered what Samara had said previously about the two brothers, and it never really clicked until now; it was like they were competing for the title, but why? I put the history book down and picked up the diary; it was old, withered and used. I opened the book, and the pages crinkled. #Chapter55We walked out the door and into the night air, it was a cool, summer night and all the critters were singing loudly. As we walked down the steps, Cain closed the door behind us and gripped my hand in his. Sitting in the driveway was a big, black bike. I had seen similar ones before when I was little, but none like this one. The black looked almost faded, and it had swirls of silver painted on it, with gold accents. Finally, we reached the bike, and Cain grabbed the two helmets resting on the seat, handing one to me. My eyes widened. “We are taking this?” I asked in disbelief, as I was a little intimidated by this monstrous machine. Cain chuckled. “Yes, love. Don’t worry; you will be fine; I would never let anything happen to you.” He said while tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. I pondered this question, wondering what I wanted to know about him and if I genuinely wanted the answers to those questions.
