Chapter Two

Everyone in the room darted a glance at each other without saying anything, they all held their breaths too scared to even breathe well while darting small glances at the man who was seated at the far end of the room.

His head was thrown backwards and his eyes were closed as though he was sleeping but the murderous feelings that was emaciating from him said otherwise. His eyes were closed while his eyelashes fluttered lazily.

Some of the old people in the room turned to an elderly man while using their hands and eyes to make all kinds of gestures and conversations. The elderly man who looked as terrified as the rest of the men in the room coughed lightly while standing up and bowing his head to the man who looked as if he was still sleeping.

“Alpha Alston, on behalf….” The old man had barely started when the supposed sleeping man stopped him in his tracks.

“Old man have your seat” he interrupted him finally lifting the eyelids that seemed so heavy to lift seconds before.

In the whole of the Curran pack, the only person who dared to address the father of the Chief Priestess as an old man was Alpha Alston. Even other Alphas would respectfully address him. For Alston, he could call him whatever he wanted and the old man? He wouldn’t even bother.

The old man who had stood up to talk raised his head to peek at the expression he was wearing before bowing his head again and walking back to his seat.

Alston glanced at the number of people settled in the room with the man who was kneeling few metres away from him with his head bowed.

“So you lost him?” he started with everyone flinching and unconsciously straightening their backs.

“Alpha Alston” one of the men started getting to his feet.

“Whoever this person was; it was none like we had seen before. Their fighting skills were very much different from what we were familiar with. He was trained well trained” the man continued while raising his head to glance at Alston for a moment.

“It was more like he was trained on how to fight against us” he muttered quietly while keeping his head bowed.

“Zach, is that true?” Alston asked and man kneeling few meters away from him raised his head slightly and nodded.

“Yes Alpha Alston, he had every counter for every one of our moves” he replied and Alston chuckled. A chuckle that washed dread and fear over everyone in the room.

Alston wasn’t feared just because he was the strongest Alpha to exist or because he was ruthless and cruel. It was more because he was irritable and unpredictable, he could anything as long as he wanted to, right or wrong, no one could stop him. When someone as strong as Alston was wilful and unpredictable; automatically fear wold be instilled in everyone.

“Send message to Alpha Jake of the RedBurn tribe, that his last son isn’t so bad but I want the head of whomever had taught him how to fight. I give him ten hours to send the head over else he should ready his pack for war” Alston said every single of his word soaking sweat in everyone’s bones and marrows.

“Yes Alpha Alston” they chorused as Alston walked out of the room a blank expression on his face. The people in the room remained in their bowing position until they were sure that Alston was out of sight.

“What did he mean by what he said?” one of the men asked.

“Don’t tell me that the person we fought all night long is the last son of the RedBurn?” another one asked.

“Alpha Jake had gone too far this time”

“He’s very lucky that Alpha Alston is letting him live”

“Alpha Alston is plotting something again”

“Why is he always that irritable?”

“I heard that it’s because he’s the only Alpha without a mate”

“Alpha Alston had been searching for his mate for years and yet, he hasn’t found her yet”

“Other Alpha’s strength is multiplied when they find their mate but Alpha Alston is even stronger. Imagine how strong he would be when he finds his mate”

“I don’t want to think about it”

“For now, let’s send Alpha Jake a message. He has less than ten hours already”

Alston walked through the forest grounds the weeds and flowers sweeping at his legs at he walked. The man who had been kneeling in the room before walked behind him, his head dropped as quiet as possible. Nobody knew more than him how irritable Alston got as days passed by. The Alpha looked and seemed frustrated but he refused to open up and share his feelings with another. He would rather wallow in self-disgust and over thinking and let someone do the thinking for him.

He watched as Alston got to a tree trunk and sat down resting his back against the trunk while closing his eyes.

“Alpha Alston” he called quietly while Alston ignored him.

Away from the stress and worries of the pack; Alston’s heart still felt heavy and unsatisfied for reason he did not know. He had always felt this way and when it all started he didn’t know. At first it was a heavy feeling and then it started to take a toll on his mood and his decisions. He became so irritable that he irritated himself half of the time.

‘Why are you so irritable?’ his wolf asked and Alston rolled his eyes.

‘If I were you Sebastian, I wouldn’t say anything to me right now’ Alston said while his wolf snickered without saying anything.

‘I don’t know why you worry so much. We’ll find her okay? Wherever she is, we will find her’ his wolf muttered.

‘Who’s her?’ he asked.

‘Our mate’ Sebastian replied and Alston rolled his eyes.

Mate.

Somehow the word sounded so strange yet so close. From the early age of sixteen, some of the Alpha’s had found their mates. Alston had taken over the reins of the pack from his father at seventeen. Back then he was very much excited to find his mate but his excitement soon died out and turned to nonchalance as the years passed and he still didn’t find her.

8 years and counting and there was no sign of her. And for some reason as well; the Chief Priestess always came up with bleak and blank divinations about his mate whenever his worried mother ran to her shrine.

Alston wasn’t in the least interested in finding his mate, whether she existed or not; he no longer cared. He had more worries than finding his mate. He had made their pack stronger than other packs since he took over, he had personally trained more than half of the royal guards and the guards protecting the pack. He had brought the pack to where it stood today.

With time other packs were growing stronger and stronger and were dauntingly and subtlety challenging his pack, they were itching to take over their vast land and resources. The thought made Alston flinch in disgust.

And that was why a pack like RedBurn had the audacity to send its next Alpha to infiltrate his own pack, he sent his own son to infiltrate the Curran Pack. The audacity and confidence made Alston’s blood boil with anger as he sneered.

He had been too quiet for long, they had all forgotten how powerful he was and how magmonious he was. Once upon a time when he trampled on their pack and land and they had to bow their heads to him; he hadn’t taken away their land or asked for tribute, all he had asked for was for respect and they had given it to him or so he had thought.

Times were changing and they thought it was finally their turn?

Now they wanted not just trample all over his land and pack, they wanted his land and its resources, they wanted his warrior and everything that they enjoyed. They might be older but they weren’t smart enough.

Alston had watched a lot of packs build warriors in secret hiding them in the human land, he watched them build and hide resources for what at first I didn’t understand. But after the usual pack meeting, he came to an understanding. Refusing to reveal their agenda, he had watched them quietly without saying anything nor moving against them.

But now, they had openly infiltrated his own pack.

“How are the troops doing?” Alston suddenly asked.

“Of which pack?” Zach asked his head lowered a little.

“Raven” Alston replied and Zach just bowed his head without saying anything. Alston rose to his feet, a small sneer on his lips. He needed to show them once more who the strongest was. It looked as though they had forgotten, reminding them was the best option.

“Let’s pay them a visit” Alston said in the next second he morphed into a huge grey wolf bursting into a race the next second. Zach knowing fully well what Alston was about to do the moment he said ‘Let’s pay them a visit’ morphed into a wolf the next second, his wolf was much blacker and would easily adjust into darkness chasing after Alston hotly.
