Lydia’s P.O.V
The next morning, I was surprised to find out how normal it felt to wake up next to Lyric.
Yes, the guy snored and yes, he likes to think of me as his personal pillow as he wrapped himself around me like a blanket, but it seems like I was just as comfortable cuddling up to him because I had my hands wrapped around him as well, our legs tangled with each other under the sheets. It was very intimate, but I didn’t find it uncomfortable.
I was a really bad sleeper as far as I remembered. I was used to swimming around in my bed, but so far Lyric hadn’t complained about my sleeping habit and even I felt that I didn’t move around all that much when I was sleeping cuddled in his arms.
I woke up early the next morning, thanks to the birds chirping on my windowsill and tried to untangle myself from Lyric’s arms so I could get up. The task proved difficult since he tightened his hold on me as soon as I tri
Lydia’s P.O.VLyric hadn’t been too thrilled at the idea of me meeting his brother and that was understandable. But I felt like I had to meet Derek. There was something important I had to discuss with him and it could only happen if I went to this party. It’s not like I couldn’t just go over to their house and meet him, but it would be better in a formal setting where Lyric could introduce me properly to his family. Derek had no idea that our parents knew each other and that was my advantage. Whatever he must have told his parents to get rid of his guilty conscience, it would be a blow to his ego to learn that his parents couldn’t outrightly hate me.There was a knock on the bedroom door right then, snapping me out of my trance and I called out to Lyric to enter before I got down to the finishing touches for my makeup. I’d kept my look simple yet elegant for today’s event. There wasn’t any dress co
Lydia’s P.O.V“If I knew your mansion was this big, I’d have crashed here instead.” I told Lyric, eying the magnificent three storied house splayed out in front of me.The party had been organized at the backyard where there was a huge pool, a basketball court and a grand garden. I haven’t seen it yet since we just arrived at the Donovan mansion, but Lyric had given me a verbal layout of what to expect. I had already made a map in my head about what the house would look like, but now, looking at the size of his house, I had to rethink the entire layout.“It’s a mansion alright…” Lyric sighed while scratching his nape. “Huge and cold and pretty much always empty.”I didn’t like the forlorn look in his eyes. “Don’t your parents stay here?”“Nah.” Lyric shook his head. “Dad’s an hotelier and mom’s a lawyer who owns
Lydia’s P.O.V“We’re both victims here, Derek,” I told him straight up, because he had been a soldier and soldiers prefer blunt attacks rather than beating around the bush. “But we took two very different routes to heal ourselves.”“And what makes you say that?” He raised an eyebrow. “I’ve healed just fine. And I’m moving forward just fine as well. Now, about Davi-”“Are you?” I said, cutting him off. “Are you really moving forward? Have you truly moved forward at all since the day you woke up to find your legs gone?”“What the hell do you mean?” He snapped angrily. Looks like anger issues runs in the family.“Lyric thinks that you’re training him so he can get into SEAL.” I said, taking a sip of the mocktail in my hands, deliberately prolonging the conversation. “But there is no real need for that. SE
Lydia’s P.O.V:“Wow!” Avery looked around my living room with wide eyes. “Your house is so neat and tidy! My mom hates cleaning so there’s stuff everywhere in our house!”“Ave!” George narrowed his eyes at her. “You’re not supposed to say that to everyone.” And then he looked at us and laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head and probably cursing his sister mentally for putting him in an awkward situation.“Alright, why don’t you guys take a seat?” I steered them towards the sofa. “I’ll get you some refreshments before dinner.”It was Saturday, a week after Lyric’s parent’s anniversary party and Lyric and I had finally been able to call George and Avery over for dinner. Rather than ordering out, Lyric and I had actually cooked an entire meal together and it had been a fun, messy, new experience for the both of us. Do
Lyric’s P.O.V: “I love you.”“No.” She shook her head vigorously. “You don’t mean that.”“I love you.” I repeated, taking her hand in mine. “I love you.”“No, you don’t. You can’t.” She took her hands out of mine and stepped back.“Why?” I asked her calmly, while my insides turned into stone. I never knew it was so difficult loving someone until I had finally fallen hard and fast. This pain hurt worse than any hit I had ever taken in the ring.“Why can’t I love you? Why?” I begged. “I know I haven’t been the best person Lydia, you were right all this time. I’ve been a bully, I’ve been reckless and so much worse, but I promise you, I’ll change. I’ll get my act together, be the better man that you deserve.”I moved towards her cautiously, making su
Lydia’s P.O.V:“Hey girlfriend!”Ivy’s voice was cheerful as she picked up the call right after the first ring. It felt like sandpaper against my senses, especially since I hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep last night and was running on four cups of unsweetened coffee since this morning.“Hey…are you busy?” I asked to make sure. Generally 1.30 PM would be her lunch time but you never know when there would be an emergency at the hospital.“Oh, no. Just about to get lunch.” She told me and in the background, I heard the low hum of people moving around. “I had this really difficult kid at the MRI and he kept moving around, so it took a while.”“A kid? How old? What happened?” Whenever I heard of any kid getting an MRI or a CT scan, I tend to freak out. Maybe it was PTSD, but I couldn’t imagine any child going through what I had experienced.&
Lydia’s P.O.V:“Lydia?” Lyric blinked several times to make sure that it was actually me and not someone else. “How did you get here?”“Derek told me where to find you.” I told him a bit sheepishly. “I went to your house first.”“Oh?” Lyric scratched the back of his head awkwardly and even I was at a loss for words. Why was it so hard to say something that I wanted to tell him so badly? We had never had awkward moments like this before but I guess there was a first for everything. So, I took a deep breath and spoke what was in my mind.“I’m sorry for last night.”“I’m sorry for last night.”We looked into each other’s eyes then and Lyric cracked a smile of relief. “I didn’t think you’d come here today…or at all.” He told me. “I was so worried I hardly slept a wink last night.
Lydia’s P.O.V:“I guess I own you an apology?” Derek told me as he flipped a hamburger on the large charcoal grill. “And definitely a thank you.”“I’m hearing neither.” I handed him the couple slices of American cheese that I had just unwrapped. “Let the past stay in the past and never be brought up again.”“Wow.” He raised his eyebrows at me with a smirk on his face. “You’re in a good mood today.”I turned towards the basketball court where George was standing with a Lyric, Harvey and Cody along with a couple of Derek’s ex-SEAL friends, who were trying to teach him to play basketball while Avery, another woman I didn’t know and the Dawson twins were taking a dip in the swimming pool.I had been offered to join the girls in the pool, but I had opted out because I had wanted to stay and help Derek with the barbeque, even though he h
