Thank you for the feedback on the last chapter - I love to read the comments. And I love the support for The Beta's Mate. I was leaning towards Amelie's story (Alpha Kate's daughter) for the next book ... let me know your thoughts. Next chapter update is tomorrow. Ellie xo
Miranda POV “We need to go back there,” I say quickly as Sarah and Lucas look at their dead mother’s body. I know they are overwhelmed but now I have an idea where they may be holding Daniel. “We need to move quickly before he moves Daniel,” I add as Sarah whips her head around to look at me, “What do you mean?” she asks stepping closer to me. “He will have felt their bond break; we need to move quickly,” I say again trying to get them all rallied around so we can teleport out and back to the clearing where Penelope said Daniel was. He was right under our noses. What did that mean? It was a riddle. “Sarah, when we get there use your powers to do a reveal spell,” I say to her. “What am I trying to reveal?” she asks as everyone comes closer to both Sarah and me. Before we take hands, I say to her, “A door, an entrance something that will take us to where an underground bunker may be.”. She looks at me in surprise, “Of course,”
Sarah POV I knew everyone was safe from the warlock’s reach so I could focus a hundred percent of my attention on destroying him. From the corner of my eye, I saw that Daniel has passed out from his injuries. The poor man probably felt relief that help was so close to him. Or he simply could not take anymore. I knew everyone was counting on me to destroy this warlock … and that is what I intended to do. I had two advantages in this fight. I was powerful, and I had my wolf, Abby, to help me. As I leapt across the space, meeting the warlock in mid-air, I released my claws trying to grab the warlock’s throat. I managed to claw him deeply but not before he quickly mended the slices with his own abilities. He could not heal, but he could throw up a spell quickly to prevent a lot of blood loss. He whips himself around and stares at me. “So, you want to play dirty, Sarah?” he says as he stalks towards me. I throw lightning bolts his way buying
Sarah POV Pain was racing through my entire body. I could feel the claw like pain where the warlock had me bound. It was like tentacles of barbwire were tearing through my flesh. There was no blood, but the feelings were intense. I could hear Jack pleading with me to fight. I was desperately trying to hold on, but the pain was wreaking havoc with my mind. I needed to hold on just a few minutes more. I needed to have the warlock at his prime. Ready to attack me with all that he has. The more Jack yells the more intense the pain becomes. His distracting the warlock is intensifying the warlock’s anger. This is what I need to get him to the point of unleashing his worst. I feel tears rolling down my cheeks. The pain continues to increase. Just as I move, the warlock catches me out of the corner of his eye. I realize I have one chance to get this right or everyone will die. As I see the warlock’s eyes shift, I can see he tosses his arms i
Jack POV I scream “No!” as I hear the heart monitor flatline. I cannot lose Sarah. Not now. She fought so hard. She does not deserve to die. “Do something Jenna!” I yell. “I am trying Jack. If you cannot stay calm, then leave!” she says tersely as she continues to focus on Sarah. The Pack doctor waits for the crash cart. As it comes in, he prepares to bring Sarah back to me. He zaps her chest. We all wait with holding our breaths. Nothing. Jenna grabs a needle and stabs it into Sarah’s chest. Again, we wait and again there is nothing. Jenna starts doing chest compressions as the doctor prepares the machine once again. Everyone stands back as the doctor zaps Sarah’s chest. We pause. And finally hear a faint blip. “It is weak, but we have her back. Luna, if there is anything you can do, we could use the help,” the Pack doctor says as he turns away from Sarah. It was a weak pulse. It was not strong as it had been. Jen
Jack’s POV It has been hours since they took Sarah away. I felt our bond waiver a few times and at least I knew she was continuing to fight to live. Fight to survive. It was not right. Not right that she was in this situation after fighting and destroying the warlock. The waves of fear roll over me repeatedly as I continue to relive the moments watching her fight on her own. I did not know if I would ever forgive Miranda for what she did. My logical mind knew that only Sarah had the ability to fight the warlock. But my heart almost broke multiple times watching the scene unfold before my eyes. Knowing you were useless in helping your mate was a horrible feeling. And here I was once again feeling useless as I waited for the doctors to try and save Sarah. I heard the door open and before I could say anything Lucas spoke softly to me. “She is strong, she will get through this,” he says. If anyone understood the anger I felt, it was him. W
Josie POV Sam and I had gone back to our room in the Pack house after the first day of waiting. Jack and Lucas would not leave so we brought clothes and food for them. We were into day three of waiting for some type of movement from either Sarah or Daniel. Nothing had happened so far. Sarah was not shocking that it was taking her time to heal; however, Daniel had the medical staff perplexed. For some reason he was simply not waking up. He had no obvious physical ailments. His wounds from his torture had almost healed completely. Without his wolf helping it was taking a bit longer, but they were progressing as you would expect of a human. Lucas was frustrated and was talking about taking Daniel back to the Harvest Moon Pack. He wanted his own Pack doctors to look him over. But Adam had convinced Lucas to give Jenna one more chance to scan his body before they leave. Jenna was convinced it was something else at play, but she could not find
Daniel POV I could hear everyone around me. Most importantly I heard everything Lucas has said to me. I could not understand why I was not able to wake up and communicate with Lucas. I wanted to hold him and assure him I was not angry with him. None of this was his fault. This – whatever it was – was bigger than all of us. It was only this morning that I had become aware that I was being injected with something. Emma had spoken to me this morning while she injected me with a fast-acting drug that continued to keep me in limbo. The idea was to continue injecting me until it would seem like I was dead and then the Council could take my body and bring me back to life to continue serving the Council. I had felt such anger and despair as I realized I had no way to communicate what was happening to Lucas. We were so close to being together that I could not believe this was happening. I felt rage surround me, yet I could not express it. I had n
Sarah POV The Pack doctor rushed into my room and checked my vitals. I simply sat and stared at Jack. Stared into his eyes. “Well Sarah, it looks like you are back,” the Pack doctor says as I simply turn and smile at him. I still had a really dry throat but was drinking water slowly so as not to upset my stomach. Jack simply held onto my hand, holding it to his lips waiting impatiently for the Pack doctor to leave. As soon as he did, Jack was in the bed with me holding me tightly in his arms. Nobody else had come yet, “I have not told them you are awake yet. I want a few minutes with you to myself,” he says. I smile and snuggle in closer. I am still tired, but finally awake. “When can I leave?” I whisper. Jack smiles at me, “As soon as the doc gives the go ahead, I am breaking you out of here,” he promises me. ‘I should be able to go home today, nothing left for me to do but recuperate,” I remind him as he simply holds me tighter.
