I hope you liked this chapter. As always, I would love to read your comments.
We had been in Red Moon Pack for a week and we had welcomed a minimum of twenty new members each day. One day, we welcomed one hundred new members. We were now up to three hundred thirty-five pack members and we were still growing. I was almost overwhelmed with how much had changed. The training grounds was starting to get a tad crowded, so we cleared a little more of the surrounding forest to expand the grounds. I was smiling as I watched our warriors train from my office window and felt my mate’s strong arms come around me, “Matt and Jessie are coming down today. They want to see what we are doing with the pack.” I smiled, “I can’t wait to see them. I miss our home, but I really think we have a couple weeks work left here. Especially getting the books straightened out. We still haven’t gotten the safe open either.” He smiled, “Matt can help with that.” I whipped my head around, “What? How can he do that?” He laughed, “Matt used to crack the combination on our dad’s safe every time
The first note read, “To my grandchild. I want you to know that I wish I could have been with you when you took my pack back. I would have loved to have seen the look on your face when you saw the contents of the safes. I never really trusted banks. Well, not necessarily banks, but the wolves working in them. I would have used human banks, but I could have never explained this much money to the human government. “I’m sure you are asking how I knew I would lose the pack and that it would be you, and not my son, to take it back. Well, you have a cousin who is an oracle. She came to me one day and told me that my Luna, your grandmother, and I would be killed in our sleep by an outsider in order to take our pack. You see, Alpha lesson number one is once your pack gets big and it is flourishing, it becomes a target for other Alphas or even a regular lone wolf who wants to be an Alpha. You, my grandchild, are starting out with a huge pack that is flourishing. “I hope Jacob was able to come
At dinner that evening, we added the one hundred seventy-five new members to the pack and then we started a bonfire to be able to visit with one another and Honi would bless the pack. I explained to the pack that we will be receiving an Arapaho blessing from my mother-in-law. They all applauded resoundingly and Honi actually blushed as she nodded her head in thanks. I walked back inside to get a drink and heard another knock on the door. I opened the door and a man and woman were standing there. The man, Michael, introduced himself, “Hello, I’m Michael and this is my mate, Jada. She is an oracle.” I smiled widely as I asked, “Are you the oracle who warned my grandfather?” She smiled as she nodded, “I am. I hate that he passed, but I am very happy to meet his granddaughter.” I welcomed them into the house with a hug and added, “I would like to make you members of the pack again and then you are welcome to join us in watching my mother-in-law give the pack an Arapaho blessing.” We walk
When we got back to the pack house, we went back to my office and Joshua asked, “What are you doing, love? You are supposed to be relaxing.” I laughed, “I’m just looking through all of this paperwork from the safes. I want to see what all this is. While you guys were looking at the land that my grandfather left, I found more deeds and checked them with the land office. We still own them. There are some businesses. A couple are some of the oldest businesses in the pack. One is an old-fashioned ice cream shop.” He chuckled, “We should try it out before we go home.” I smiled, “We should do that but not right now. There are also some other deeds that I’m not familiar with.” I handed some to him and he furrowed his brow, “We should get an original pack member in here. It’s very possible that we didn’t need to buy that apartment building for revenue.” I smiled, “But it would come in handy for any overflow of pack members until we are able to build more houses.” He smirked as he nodded, “Tha
We had a nice walk and when we got to the ice cream shop, I was floored when we walked in the door. It had the feel of the old-time ice cream shop and soda fountain. Behind the counter was a huge dark-stained wood shelving system with a series of spigots and a variety of syrups in bottles in the center. On the shelves to the right, there were four different sizes of glasses, straws and spoons with long handles. The shelves to the left held an assortment of styles of ice cream dishes and a container holding several ice cream scoops in sanitizing water. There were four freezer cases under a marble countertop. Inside, there were two-gallon buckets containing forty different flavors of ice cream. The glass windows on the outside allowed the customers to choose the flavors they preferred. I smiled widely as I looked around at the nostalgic décor. Joshua and I held hands as we approached the counter. I looked in the windows and noticed an ice cream that was a beautiful shade of pink, with c
Joshua and I went to bed early that night, exhausted from the night’s events. I woke early the next morning, ready to get to my office and get my work caught up. I took my shower, got dressed and sat on my mate’s side of the bed. He turned to face me, “Good morning, love. It’s good to see you up and ready to get started.” I smiled, “I am. I’m about to get some breakfast. Would you like to come to breakfast with me or would you rather I bring some breakfast up to after I eat?” He asked, “Would you please pick up some breakfast for both of us and eat up here with me?” I laughed, “I can do that.” I kissed him and smiled, “Take your shower while I’m out. Okay?” He nodded, “Will do.” I went to the dining hall and grabbed to-go containers for both of us and filled them full of bacon, sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and biscuits. Then I filled two styrofoam bowls with gravy and went back to our room. I put our food on the table in our room while I waited for him to finish getting dressed. I starte
I decided to wait until we got home to read the letters from my grandmother. I had a feeling that it was going to be emotional, so I wanted to be in our suite when I went through everything. I thought about taking all the boxes that were in her hidden closet. I think there might be some pack history in there. However, I decided to wait until I came back and load them in the vehicles or ask Andrew to send someone up with them. I’m not really in a rush. I don’t want to stress over it. After we were done with that hiding spot, I asked Jacob, “Are there any more hiding spots?” He replied, “No, except the tunnel.” Joshua, Andrew and I asked, “Tunnel?” simultaneously. We looked at each other and chuckled, but Jacob nodded, “Yeah. You didn’t know about the tunnel?” We all shook our heads and he explained, “There was an Alpha during one of the human wars who instructed a group of omegas to dig an escape tunnel. It was to keep the humans from finding us.” I added, “And I bet that’s how Alpha R
Douglas came back to the house and walked into my office. I asked, “Okay, so tell me where the tunnel comes out.” He shook his head, “It ends at the hidden cellar that you were in during the rogue attack that killed your parents.” I gasped and sat back in my chair, “What. The. Actual. Hell. I’m shocked. I have to say, though, it almost doesn’t surprise me. There are so many surprises in this house and pack. Not the people, but the pack house is full of surprises. It’s crazy. It does lead to a house that the Alpha and Luna could have holed up in with some other pack members until the danger was over.” Joshua added, “It would be an easy way to cross the border without being caught too. All they had to do was climb the ladder and run out the back door. Bang! You’re in neutral land. Walk ten feet straight ahead and you’ll be in the neighbor’s territory.” I nodded, “Yep. Actually, you are in neutral territory at the ladder. Red Moon Pack territory starts at the front porch.” I sat in my of
