Chapter 36: Little Man

I forgot to breathe for a second, and my brain assessed everything to tell me what it all meant. I turned around and saw Ela had already picked him up in her hands, and all the emotions of compassion and love flooded her face.

He was her son.

Ela was the mother of this beautiful boy.

She didn’t say anything about having a child. I thought, then realised it wasn’t my business. She didn’t owe me the details of her personal life or affairs. She came for business, and she has remained in that position since then, despite my persuasions.

Watching them share a wholesome moment was priceless, but my heart burned, realising what this meant. My eyes blurred up, knowing that if everything had gone according to my plans, he would have been ours.

I blinked back the tears and cleared my choked-up throat. “He’s yours.” It wasn’t a question; it was a statement of fact. He looked so much like her. They had the same eyes, the same nose, and the same smile.
