Richard POV
Having Layla here makes sense. It makes everything perfect. I could get used to having her around. I never brought anyone home except Pamela. Layla is the only woman I have dated in all these years that I flew like bringing home, and I decided to show my personal space.
I have to keep my private life very private because everywhere I go, I have cameras following me, I have cameras trying to get something out of me, and this is my secret space. This is where I am, and no one has any access.
Angie says that dinner is served, and now I have to go face my teenage daughter. That is becoming worse with every breath she takes. I don’t know what I have done wrong for her to hate me like that.
“I’ll go get Mia for dinner,” I say, and Layla rests one hand on my arm, stopping me. I find
Layla POV "Why don't you spend the night?" Richard asks, and I shake my head. I don't want to push the limits. We were lucky that Mia gave us her blessing, and I don't want to make her uncomfortable by invading her space and spending the night here as soon as she tells us she is okay with us being together. "I can't, I need to go home, and you need to spend some time with your daughter, without me, just the two of you, watch a movie, have some ice cream, actually listen to her," I say, and Richard nods. We had a serious conversation about his relationship with Mia, and it's so broken that is going to take a lot of effort on his part to make it right. "I'll get Nando to drive you," Richard says, and I shake my head again. "I have an Uber on the way. Let the man rest, " I say, kissing his nose, and he smiles.
Layla POV I open my eyes and close them almost immediately. The sun passing through the windows almost blinds me. I hear a door opening, and I move to feel like I am lying in a cloud. Everything is soft and feels so good. “Breakfast in bed,” I hear Richard’s voice, and I smile, sitting up in bed while he puts a massive tray in front of me. There’s everything you can think of, fruit salad, orange juice, croissants and toast, and the most important thing, coffee with creamer. “This smells and looks amazing,” I say, and he nods, kissing me softly on the top of the head before he walks through the bathroom door. I start drinking my juice and smile. It’s really fresh squeezed orange juice. Who has the time to do this in the morning? “What time do you have to go to work?” Richard asks as he walks back into the room. I look at him wearing tracksuit pants and a T
Richard POV "No, I don't care about any of that. Keep her name out of everything", I say over the phone to Dylan. He needs to help me get this shit sorted. I have never been in the headlines for something like this. I roll my eyes. "You do realize you're fucked, right?" he asks, and I can tell by his tone that he is enjoying this more than he should. Fucker. "Dylan, just get it fucking sorted," I bark, and he takes a deep breath. "Have you talked to Gilmore?" He asks. I know he is only trying to help, but I need him to get his hands on every article that hasn't come out yet and kill it. I don't need any more press on my relationship, let alone on me punching that fucker. "I'm calling him right now; just get it done, Dylan. This can kill my reputation," I say, and he laughs on the other side. "Maybe you should've thought about that before y
Layla POV “Mia, call your mom, go stay with her; Layla, you stay here,” Richard says, and I can feel Mia tensing up next to me. Her eyes meet mine as the police officer starts to read Richard his Miranda rights. When they are done, they pull a set of handcuffs, and Richard scoffs. I watch everything as if my body is paralyzed. I can’t believe this is really happening. Why is James doing this? “Do we really need that? I haven’t resisted my arrest, I am cooperating, and I am standing here in front of you”, Richard says with the calmest tone of voice I have ever heard. The man is like a rock, and I have to say that if this wasn’t a stressful situation and this wasn’t real, I would be turned on right now. “Let’s go,” The officer says, and Richard walks to Mia, kisses her on the top of the head, and rubs one finger over her lip. I watch as he walks out of his house, head held high, and when the door closes, I collap
Layla POV“Has anyone heard anything from Ricky?” Cruella asks, and I keep my eyes on my phone. Of course, he won’t be calling me, and he probably doesn’t even have his phone with him. But as if it was magic, my phone rang, and I saw Jo’s number.“Hey,” I say as I stand up and walk out of the living room. All eyes are on me, and I smile. “It’s not him,” I announce before stepping into the kitchen, where I am completely alone.“Any news?” Jo asks, and I take a deep breath as I sit on the kitchen island stool.“No, and I am worried. It was all because of me,” I whispered, looking back at the door as if I was afraid someone would walk into the kitchen and listen to my conversation with my best friend.“I read that Jame
Layla POV“This is ridiculous,” I hear Cruella say, and I roll my eyes as I stand by the closed window. I can’t even look outside because everyone is paranoid that the paparazzi might be in someone’s apartment across the street, and they might take pictures of us here.“Why isn’t he home yet? Is Julien even working on this?” She asks, and the door opens with an older man walking in. He is an older version of Richard, and I realize he is his father. He is tall and looks important with his designer suit and gray hair pulled back.“So?” He asks as he looks around the room. Then his eyes land on me, and he frowns. He shoves his hands in his pants pockets and locks eyes with me. I feel a chill down my spine, and Jude steps between him and me, blocking him from me.“Dad, Julien is dealing with everything w
Richard POV“Okay, let’s go,” Julien tells me as he opens the interrogation room. I walk past him out of the room, and I take a deep breath. We’ve been in here for around eight hours, and I am ready to go home back to Layla. I bet she is stressing out and knowing my family the way I do, and I know they are there making her life miserable.“You need to behave from now on, you will be in front of the judge in three days, and I can’t risk you going around and ruining my good work,” Julien says, and I rest my head back on the headrest of the car.“Since when do I go around doing anything reckless?” I ask, and he raises an eyebrow looking at me.“Well, since you met Layla,” he tells me, and well, I guess he has a point, but that guy was touching her;
Layla POV “Why can’t we go to my house? I really don’t feel comfortable taking Mia’s clothes,” I say, but Richard storms through her room and into her dressing room. The girl has more clothes than in a normal shop. And not everything is here. Half of her clothes are at her mother’s house. I look around in awe. I had been here before but felt weird to look around while she grabbed the least expensive things for me to wear, and now her own father was rummaging through her clothes to get me some overpriced dress. “This one will do,” he says, showing me a red dress, and I shake my head. “I am not wearing red on Thanksgiving. It has to be some neutral colors, something that will keep me discreet. I don’t want to put attention on me, your mother hates me already,” I say, and Richard shakes his head as he takes a
