“Come back to work with me,” I plead, but Layla shakes her head. I really wish she would stop being stubborn and come back to work for me, and I need her. She was the best person I ever had, she is organized, and she knows how I like things done.

“Please,” I beg, and she laughs loudly as she does her hair into a single braid on the back. I stand behind her as she looks at me through the mirror.
