Chapter 39

Faith watched her dad from across the table. His arms were folded and he looked positively angry.

Devlin was seated beside her, also facing her father. He had one hand on the table and sported an easy smile.

Her dad had all but dragged her out of the car and demanded that Devlin do the same. He'd come down without a fight which Faith was grateful for.

"What are you doing here, Dad? You didn't tell me you were coming?"

"How would I have told you when you haven't been picking up my calls for days?"

She blushed and kept her head down. Devlin gave her a surprised look. She ignored him.

"I was planning to call you tomorrow."

"Really? Somehow I don't believe it."

"But how come you're here Dad? What about work?"

"I took a break. This is a dire situation. Your mother was going to come as well but Mrs Wilkins wouldn't give her the day off."

"You didn't have to come."

"Of course I did! I met you with your mouth almost glued to his!"
