CHAPTER 5

~

When I was dreaming of entering law school, I met Lucia. She's on her phone ranting about her roommate and wanting to kick her out.

"I'll find another roommate to replace her, immediately. Someone who would get my vibes and is responsible in the house."

My ears tingled, we were in a coffee shop, and I'm not eavesdropping over the woman on the other table, I just have ears, it's inevitable, and the woman was talking loudly on the phone.

So when the waiter gave my frappe, I ordered a slice of an orange chiffon cake and instructed her to give it to the woman on the phone.

"Yes, you heard me right, brother! I know how expensive the rent is outside the university belt, but guess what, I don't care. Kick her out for me, I don't want to see any trace of her in my unit tonight."

When the cake arrived, I made sure to sit in front of her and the waitress explained that the cake was from me.

"Why did you give me a cake?"

I smiled wickedly, aware that she dropped her phone on the table but didn't cancel the call.

"I'm Sulli, it's a pleasure to meet you, I just finished the LAE here, I want to go to law school," I said, but she just gave me a raised brow so without further ado, I told her the reason why I gave her the cake.

"I want to be your new roommate if you want..."

There was a deafening silence between us after I dropped the bomb. She stared at me then at the orange chiffon cake I ordered for her.

She lifted the dessert fork to the side and took a bite. "Do you know me, Sulli?"

That's the thing I skipped to look at, was being blinded by my dreams of becoming a lawyer enough excuse for that?

Now that I'm staring at her properly; the shirt she's wearing was from a famous brand, her skinny white pants and sneakers might be worth the same, and her designer bag screamed fashion, I only saw it in an advertisement and I never touch one in real life!

Her earrings and watch were pleated with diamonds and gold, she had little makeup, though, her brows needed a little shaping, and her mascara was messy.

She suddenly dropped her fork on the plate, which caused a loud sound.

I got startled, so I said what's on my mind. "I really want to become a lawyer! That's my childhood dream! And I'm going to be one even if I need to walk on shards of glass carpet!"

I'm so desperate, I never thought I would say that in my whole life, but the girl chuckled and once again lifted her fork and had another bite of the cake.

"I'm Lucia, it's nice meeting you, Sulli. You passed the test on being my roommate."

-

I'm such a shameful person. The school mailed me my teaching uniform first thing in the morning, and I prepared Levi's bag so that he could wake up and go to kindergarten stress-free.

It was impressive at first when my uniform perfectly fit me, five pairs of blouses and pants that differ in colors every day, it has the same pattern, but I'm a little worried and anxious because it accentuates my body well.

I have an hourglass figure, and the uniforms were not diaphanous or anything near to that, but it hugs my small waist and wide hips so well, so to shake off the worry a little, I place a long cardigan and woke Levi up.

"Levi, this is your first day of school here. Be nice to those people nice to you, okay?" I reminded.

That's the words I always remind him when he socializes because ironically, that's the only thing I couldn't do: I can't be nice to people who are nice to me, I treat everyone nicely even if they're rude or nasty or stupid, I can't talk back and give them a lesson because that would mean the end of me and Levi's peaceful life.

When everything was settled, I went along with Levi on his kindergarten first even though he didn't want me to.

"I'm just going to see you until you enter," I replied, even when he was still in his preschool, he doesn't want me to stay longer with him even though other parents do with their children.

He said it was because I needed to get to work, and it was no use in going to preschool if I had just stayed and observed him outside the room.

I was touched, so I let him and only wave him goodbye just like this day, it was his first time in this kindergarten, I'm worried that he might not know what to do but he assured me with a smile and bravely entered the steps towards the kindergarten.

I exhaled sharply, now that I am left alone, I realized how bad of a parent I am, I have my bag on my shoulder and inside was the invitation Lucia gave me for her wedding, I still have some time to kill before my first class starts so I immediately leave the school and wave for a taxi.

I don't want to go to her wedding, so I need to end this before it goes out of hand.

"Good day madam, do you have an appointment?" The lady at the front desk asked.

I bit my tongue and clutched my bag, I was in my teaching uniform, and the lady eyed me with a judgemental stare.

I swallowed hard and shook my head. "No, but your president knows me, tell him I want to talk to him."

I smiled, my hands rubbing each other. The lady gave me a raised eyebrow but did what she was told.

Trevor really did a great job when he became the president of their airline company after his father retired, their headquarters in this country looked like the tail of an airplane, it was magnificent and everything shouts  they were the best airline company in the world, from their high-quality pieces of equipment and services and luxurious things.

"Ma'am, let me lead you to where he is." The lady stepped out and led me to the elevator.

She pushed the top floor button, and soon enough, I arrived in the office of the president that owns this billion-dollar company – Trevor Halderon Clark.

"Sulli, I never thought you'll visit me here," he exclaimed, going to the couch beside the fireplace and a flat-screen TV.

I sat on the other side and crossed my ankles. He squinted his eyes and leaned forward to make a tea.

"I'm not going to stay here for long, don't worry." I fished for my bag and placed the envelope on the table. "You knew I met Lucia, right? She tells you everything. She insisted on inviting me but I don't want to come."

He glanced over the small envelope and placed the pot of hot water on the coffee table on his side.

"Not that much, our relationship became bland since you left," he said without any hesitation.

I straightened my seat and clasped my hand. "That's not my problem, at least you can tell her I won't attend her wedding?"

"Why? Why don't you personally tell her that?" Trevor barked, resting on his back and stretching his arms.

"I don't like to break her heart, I'll send a present for her, so please tell her I won't come," I said and was about to stand up but then he countered.

"I can't." He put his hands over his chin.

"Why?" Because their relationship was shattered? Was that it?

"She expects you to come, I do too, and I want to introduce you to my family on that day, as my runaway wife."

"What? Are you nuts?" I made a full turn towards him, my brows furrow, and my chest tightened as he behold my gaze.

"No, I'm not. Sulli, almost five years ago, I accidentally submitted our marriage contract to the civil registrar."
