Chapter 14: Permanent Job

After taking Andrew and Veronica to the ICU, I left them alone to give them a break for a bit. I stepped in occasionally, to run a post-op on Andrew, which he continued to pass with excellence. It still bugged me that I didn’t know if he was given the drug or the saline.

Until I ran more tests, I was flying blind on if this would work long enough for me to find a way to resect the tumor. I felt inspired enough to try, now I needed to find a way in and out without killing him, or worse. The more time I spent with her little brother, the more I wanted to save him.

Not just because my wife wanted me to, but because I wanted to do it. With everything he is going through, he still held a light in him that was rare among children. Seeing the way he interacted with others, one couldn’t help but feel happy just to be around him.
