Lily's POV

As I sifted through the dresses, it felt as though I was thrown back in time. Every single dress seemed to carry a story, a piece of Aiden's mother's life before her demise. I saw what looked like a dance card in the pocket of a flowery satin dress, a crushed lily petal in between the sleeves of another.

Every single one felt ethereal and timeless.

Finally, I carefully selected an elegant yet understated black dress, fitted at the hips and ending in a short flair. Its straps were thin and ended in a crisscross at the back.

I pressed the cloth against my body and stared into the closet's mirror in apprehension. What if the party people saw through me? What if they discovered I wasn't a woman worthy of Aiden Blackwood, and I was merely a lowly girl from Brooklyn?

I sighed finally and draped the dress over my arm, hoping to honor the memory of the woman who still held a special place in Aiden's heart.
