CHAPTER 46: He's going to make it

MEREDITH:

The pleasure was immense, and I was worn out. Even in my dreams, I was happy, relaxed, and satisfied. No regretful feelings about what we had done or uncertainty, not until I heard the smashing sound that startled me awake. I jerked from the bed, and Miles wasn't there. Did someone sneak into the house?

I searched for the light switch and flipped it on. Miles was gone, and so was his clothing. I grabbed a bathrobe from the hanger and went out of my room to find the source of the noise. My eyes fell on Miles's door, ajar. It was the first time. It was never open, not even for a second. I briefly contemplated within myself if I should head back inside or move there. What if he gets mad if I did so?

“Help,” his weak voice sounded and went faint.

I ran to him, not thinking of any consequences that might come later. Miles was on the floor, with nothing but his shirt. He looked almost dead. I knelt shaking him but didn't get any response. I felt his pulse, but it was very faint
