Throwing caution to the wind

Eve's POV

I was sure I looked like a mess. I didn't need a mirror to confirm that, but I needed a mirror to readjust everything. My dress felt lopsided. My hair was ruffled. I was certain of that. Adam had pulled and yanked at the strands so many times for them to remain the same. 

I shuddered at the thought as I made my way down the corridor, trying to even my breathing. There wasn't a soul in sight. Everyone was in the ballroom. The music grew louder as I drew closer to the stairs. I could picture everyone dancing, and giggling as they talked, unaware of what had just happened right under their very noses. 

Tom would have a fit. I could only hope that his meeting had spanned longer. What the hell was wrong with me? Why had I followed Golden- Adam, in the first place?! It was downright dangerous. If Tom found out, I was doomed.
