CHAPTER THIRTY SIX**She had stared at the pictures and phone number almost for the rest of the afternoon. The decision on what to do had been made for her when Julian returned from the university that evening. Faith told him everything and he'd been hell-bent on finding out who it was."Have you tried dialing the number?""No, not yet." Faith replied. "I guess that's where we have to start from, put it on speaker." Faith held her breath as she grabbed her phone and punched the numbers, seconds later it started to ring. She met Julian's stare, wondering if she had made the right choice as he had suggested. Her heart gave a slight pound when the answer came from the other side. "Hello?" The feminine voice greeted. For some reason, Faith hadn't expected it to be a woman, not only that, but the voice also sounded kind of familiar."Why did you send those pictures to me?" She decided to go straight to the point. "I knew you'd definitely call, I just didn't think you would wait
CHAPTER THIRTY SEVEN**Faith slowly regained consciousness, the first thing her brain registered was the strong nauseating smell of antiseptics. Her eyes fluttered open and she slowly looked around. Confusion kicked in as she realized she seemed to be in a hospital. She tried to suddenly sit up and had to wince at the prickling pain, an IV needle was connected to her hand. How the hell did she end up here? She thought. It took only three seconds for the memories to come rushing. She stiffened on the bed, the coldness spreading across her skin, penetrating through her bones. She had found it weird that in all the banks she approached, none had agreed to grant her the loan, she had also failed to acquire a new job, but why would all these be related to Sterling? Faith bit her lips sharply, she desperately wanted to trust Sterling, he'd been the only person to arrange her crumbling life, always had been there when she needed him. She stared at the wedding band around her finger,
CHAPTER THIRTY-EIGHT**The mansion was grave silent when Sterling returned. It wasn't the welcome Sterling had expected when he decided to return some hours earlier, he'd wanted to give Faith the surprise, and also because he fucking missed her!He was impatient to know her response, she should have gotten enough time to think about it so it would appear as though he was pressuring her. Sterling roamed around the large empty house wearing a deep frown. She was nowhere to be found. He was restless with the feeling that something wasn't right. The air exhibited a sort of coldness that only accelerated his distress. He decided to dial her cellphone once again, the result was the same. Her cellphone was turned off. Anxiety made his heart pump faster, he inhaled deeply and tried to convince himself that he was overthinking, that she was probably just gone for a stroll or something, but none of the means to divert his thought seemed to be working. A low frustrating curse escaped h
CHAPTER THIRTY NINE **"Yes, you heard me, I want a divorce!" Faith heard his sharp intake of breath, the bedside lamp allowed her to see the hardening of his jaw, but her decision was made. Even though she wasn't sure if she was going to be alright without him, this was probably the better option for the both of them. "You are not allowed to casually say things like that, whatever that is wrong, we can both calmly sort it out?""Did you just say sort it out?" Faith flamed, getting off the bed to glare at him. "Where exactly do we start to sort it out? Perhaps all the lies you told me or the things you did behind my back, how dare you! You played me like a complete idiot!" Faith breathed angrily extending a hand to block him when he tried to step forward. "You turned my life upside down as you pleased, Who exactly do you think you are, Mr. Sterling Hunter!" She yelled. Sterling inhaled deeply, it was as he suspected. She found out something, he didn't know how much but conside
CHAPTER FORTY**"__I had it aborted yesterday__!" Faith clutched her hands, bracing herself for Sterling's furious explosion or any upset expression she might find. Sterling's head was blank for several seconds, it was as though he had forgotten the meaning of the word itself. He could feel a very severe constriction in his chest and realized it was his heart shattering. "No." He shook his head very slowly, meeting her gaze, every part of him was in denial. "You wouldn't do something like that! You're not a murderer! It's our baby Faith! You wouldn't kill our baby!" His voice cracked as he breathed heavily. "I wasn't prepared for that! Why did you have to impose every part of your life on me?!" Faith whipped her head to stare at him, he was hurting. And she was the one doing it. She hated it, perhaps at that moment she might have loathed herself more than she did him. Maybe she was just pathetic, she wanted to just forget about everything, they could continue to live as thou
CHAPTER FORTY ONE**The sound of her ring tone jolted Faith from a dreamless slumber. Her eyes fluttered open to the sound of the rain, the weather outside was gloomy. What a great way to start the day! She couldn't complain much about it as it suited her depressed mood quietly. Her eyes located her cellphone which had stopped ringing. There were about three missed calls, all from her brother. She was still wondering what the problem could be when it rang again. "Hello." She answered while shoving off the bed covers and getting out of the bed. There was a loud sigh at the other end of the line. "Why weren't you answering?! Do you know how anxious I was? After what happened, I thought something might have happened to you as well!" A puzzled expression spread across Faith's face as she dashed into the bathroom for a pee that couldn't wait. "What happened? Why would anything happen to me? I'm fine!" It couldn't be that her brother had gotten to know about her fight with Ste
CHAPTER FORTY TWO**Sterling's eyes flickered open when a knock sounded, followed by the sound of the door being nudged open. A scowled passed across his features, he'd specifically requested that he didn't want to be disturbed. For a blink of a second, he had even hoped that__"Thank you, Nora." Sterling's grimace deepened as he watched Rex wink at the nurse who was smiling way too wide, she walked away, closing the door behind her as she did. "Why is it you again? I don't want to see anyone, you may leave!" Sterling gritted, a look of irritation flaring in his eyes. His whole body felt itchy. His head ached terribly. He despised the sound of the heart monitor and the sickening smell of antiseptic, each movement hurt and he was left with no choice but to be confined to the bloody bed! That was not even half of everything he was feeling! Why didn't they understand that the best thing they could do was fucking leave me alone? His glare followed Rex as he casually relaxed on t
CHAPTER FORTY THREE**Faith brushed her teeth furiously and started to rinse her mouth. She still fumed each time she recalled Emilia's phone call last evening. The nerve of her! She was starting to believe that Emilia was mentally unstable, she already won as she wanted, why did she continue to pester her life? She splashed water on her face and rinsed her mouth again. The morning sickness was the only reminder that she was still pregnant. A lot had happened in the last 48 hours, and she had barely put her mind to thinking about what she wanted. She quickly got dressed, this time she had completely made up her mind. After cursing herself throughout the last night for being a complete coward, she had made the decision to visit Sterling in the hospital, it didn't matter if he didn't remember who she was, she couldn't pretend that she hated and did not care about him for any longer. Perhaps seeing him once would lessen the burden of the ever-present ache in her heart. The cab
