The arrival of guests and the seemingly endless chatter did little to lighten the mood as Alain Remington stood with a glass of red wine in hand as he peered out the window of his mother's dining hall. He watched with barely any interest as guest after guest made their way into the house while the live music played and the fire crackled in the enormous fireplace in the center of the hall as people from most noble walks of life filed into the manor.
