"Damn it, Mara. Who the hell taught you to hit like that?" he shouted in a nasal voice, still holding his nose trying to stem the bleeding.

I shrugged almost bashfully. "Ummm, honestly, I think it was you."

"What the hell are you doing here? How did you get here? Have you seen mom and dad? Are you here alone? What happened?" I began to fire off a list of questions as quickly as they appeared in my head.

"Whoa," he replied, wiping his nose. "I'll answer all your questions in a minute. But first… let's get out of this library. Something is watching us, and that is the first thing we need to discuss."
