Chapter 6

I strain to open my eyes against the bright lights, did I pass out again? Shit, the stress was getting to me. I have only ever passed out once in my life before, however, since arriving in the woods my body seemed determined to break my personal record by doing another two within a 48-hour period. My head felt heavy as I sat up and I felt all my previous aches return with a fury.

I start looking around to see I am in the same room as before and jolt when I see the cult leader sitting in the armchair, hunched over with his elbows on his knees, looking straight at me. Alec is standing just outside behind him on a call.

Satan bear and I stare at each other for a while before Alec steps back into the room. “ Oh your up, how are you feeling?”

“Horrendous” I answer and demonic bear is still staring at me without speaking. His face devoid of emotion. After a very long and awkward silence, he goes to speak. “Why did you run?” His eyes focused on me and I could have sworn his eyes had been black before. They looked chocolate brown with a hint of green to them, an emotion flashing in them but is gone before it registered.

He needed to ask? “I just wanted to go home.”

“Had someone refused you that?” he asked with a stern look on his face.

“Listen!” I say while pinching the bridge of my nose, “I know a cult when I see it and I want no part in this. Please just let me leave, I won’t mention anything to anyone.” Their eyes grew wider before Alec burst out laughing.

“You think we are in a cult!” he said through laughs. The bear had a huge grin on his face that irritated me to no end. Bloody demonic ass-wipe, how dare he grin at me!

“I am not stupid, demon bear here was dying not 2 days ago, now he walks around fit as a fiddle. Explain that to me!” I said pointing to the grinning asshole in the armchair.

“I am not a demon bear!” He goes to say before standing, a low rumble coming from his chest.

I pull my finger back at the sound. My face falling slack, my body lightly trembles in fear with the uncertainty of what is to come. Sure, not demonic, just an empty tummy.

As if realizing the fear he caused he sits back into the armchair looking to the side, in an attempt to cool off and goes silent again.

Alec steps forward, ”Allow me to introduce you to our… mayor of sorts.” He says looking to demon bear for approval before continuing to speak.

“Cain, is in charge, he has a rather demanding position you see, he is not always afforded the luxury of pleasant conversations. Please forgive any sudden outburst as I am sure they will be frequent and unintentional.” Alec smiles devilishly before a growl comes from Cain’s chest, Alec dismisses the sound quickly before turning to me again.

“I can see that all of this might be confusing to you, but I assure you that we have nothing to do with cult activities. And I hope that in due time, things will be explained to you in further detail.”

“Now that you know our names, how about sharing your own?”

I think for a second, do I give my real name? An endless stream of films with this scenario is playing in my mind, wondering what outcome turned out to be best. Fuck it.

I opt for honesty rather than a lie. Hoping it proved me trustworthy enough to set free with their little secret.” Hadley”

Both men smile and I raise my brows at the sight. Alec is a handsome man but Cain simply seemed on a different level. His smile sent a tinge of pleasure through me and a blush stained my face, ashamed at the feeling. I look down fiddling with my hands, hoping they leave soon allowing my racing heart to steady.
