Chapter 40: Dating Advices
By the time Conrad and Alfred arrived in their apartment, Conrad was glad that Mike visited him. They let Mike settle down in the living area and told him to feel comfortable while he waits for Conrad to freshen up. But before he freshens up, he prepares Mike a cup of freshly brewed coffee from the kitchen. Once he's done making his coffee, he approaches him to give him the coffee.
“I can’t believe you would visit me on your own,” Conrad said as he hands Mike the cup of coffee. “Not that I have no trust in you or anything,” He continued. “It just seems like you and mom are inseparable ever since I knew you guys we dating.”
“Well, you’re not wrong there.” Mike agreed.
“Where’s mom by the way?” Conrad asked.

On the way back to the apartment, Conrad can’t stop thinking about the possible reason behind the package he received from his father. He kept asking himself, “Why would he send me a package so suddenly? Can he not give this to me personally? And why isn’t he responding to any of my texts or calls recently?”. He starts to worry about his father since he knows that this is unlikely for him. He just hopes that he can receive an answer once he opens the package. As they arrive, Conrad asks if they’re going to stay in his apartment for a while. Sadly, they won’t since Elizabeth needs to get home and start finishing her plans for her clients’ event. After opening the package, Conrad couldn’t stop thinking about the contents of the journal. He knew it was something he wasn’t prepared for but still wanted to see what was written in it, and find out the reason behind his sudden disappearance and the key that he left. He decided to dial his mother to see if she has something in mind. “Hi, honey.” Elizabeth greeted as she answered the call. “So, what did your father give you this time?” She asked curiously. “Well, folklore by Taylor Swift merchandise, a journal with a key tied to it, and two envelopes for each of us,” Conrad answered. “That’s thoughtful of him, I guess,” Elizabeth said unsurely. “Sorry, I got bothered when you said about a journal with a key tied to it and two envelopes for both of us. The next morning, Conrad decided to open up his dad's journal once more, while drinking his coffee. He hasn't gotten to read its contents after reading the first page. He didn't expect his dad to leave so suddenly. It was heartbreaking for him, knowing he bid his final farewell. He won't be able to see his dad again, and he won't be able to do the things he wanted to do with him. But he told himself if they were able to cross each other's paths sometime, he would just put a smile on his face and act as if they were once strangers. But even if he left so suddenly, he still wants to find answers in the journal he left, the answers to his sudden disappearance, the key tied to the journal, and the envelopes. Opening up the journal, he gathers the courage to prepare himself for any painful statements inside the journal. Conrad was relieved when they arrived at a nearby café that wasn't overcrowded. Going to crowded places makes him nervous. He believes he is being judged by strangers, despite the lack of clear proof that they are. Let's just say that when he's depressed, he tends to avoid going to crowded places.Conrad smelled something aromatic as soon as they stepped inside. It wasn’t the freshly made pastries that the employees are putting inside the case nor the freshly brewed coffee. He takes a look around to see where the fragrant scent is coming from.
