Chapter 2

Remus's pov

“Isn’t this place wonderful?” Brent whispered beside me as Clawers Guard escorted us to the Pack House.

“Yeahh…. It’s actually more beautiful than I expected.” I mumbled in oblivion, unable to stop looking around. The sun’s rays were beautiful and the trees that surrounded this Pack were astonishing but that wasn’t my major concern. It was this bubbly feeling taking stride in me. With every step I took towards the building, I could feel the feeling getting stronger. It was like something was pulling my wolf and I, in a way it gave me hope. That perhaps my mate was going to be just perfect.

As soon as we entered the living room, the five men seated on the couch immediately arose. Three of them were just as old as my father while the other two were probably the same age as Brent and I. With bright smiles imprinted on their faces, they welcomed us.

“Alpha Blake!” The Alpha of Clawers Pack greeted.

“Alpha Sylvester!” My father chirped with the same energy as both of them embraced each other tightly. Brent continued exchanging pleasantries with them but I soon lost track of time, my focus was on the staircase leading to the hallways. I was more than certain she was in one of those rooms upstairs and I couldn’t help but wonder what she was going to look like, the attitude she carried. Every part of my body itched to just make that move, to climb the stairs and just find her. I could feel my pulse gradually getting louder and faster. I could even pick faint traces of her scent. I gulped down my saliva and as my legs made to move, Alpha Sylvester came to meet me.

“Well well well, I finally get to meet the famous Alpha of Vêtus Pack after such a long time, Alpha Remus.” He muttered with a grand gesture. I smiled. “You look so much like your Father. When you were young, you looked so short and lean but look now, how tall and bulky you are.” He chuckled before embracing me for a brief moment.

“It’s nice to meet you, Alpha Sylvester.” I responded courteously.

He nodded.

“Let me assure you, you’re going to enjoy your four day visitation here.” He uttered.

“I’m looking forward to that experience.” I replied.

“Please, I want you to meet my Beta and the Elders.” He gestured towards each of them, telling their names that I would probably once the evening dawned.

“And this is Chris, my Beta.” He finally stopped at the young man whom I shook hands with.

“I want you to meet my Beta, Brent.” I gestured towards Brent who was looking all stern and disciplined. One would think he had sense but he was just as playful and talkative.

“I must say, I’m impressed with such fine men you have as the leaders of the Vêtus Pack.” Alpha Sylvester toned with a grand gesture while my father chuckled.

“Please, sit.” He gestured towards the white couches but I hesitated for a split moment. I would rather like to meet my mate right now.

“You’re burning to see your mate right?” The Alpha said and I chuckled nervously as I relaxed beside Brent.

“I know that feeling, my daughter has been dying to see you too. You won’t believe the trauma I had to face from the troubles she gave me overnight.” He joked and they laughed. “But don’t worry, you two have more than enough time to spend with each other.” He assured me while a middle aged woman toured down the stairs hurriedly.

“Luna Aria!” My father chirped the moment his eyes fell on her.

“Alpha Blake!” She pitched excitedly and both of them briefly exchanged hugs. “It’s so great to see you again. How have you been?”

“You know, living life.” He replied jovially while she laughed.

“I can see that.” She commented and then her eyes finally fell on me.

“No doubt, this must be your son, Remus.” She said as she walked towards me. I arose to greet her.

“It’s nice to finally meet you, Alpha Remus.” She greeted me with a deep smile. I wouldn’t lie that a part of me admired her beauty. No doubt she was very beautiful when she was young. She greeted my Beta and the elders too. And then she approached her husband with a worried expression. She whispered something into his ear, even though I couldn’t hear, I knew it was something bad. His smile had faded.

“So where is Sylvia? Or is she too shy to meet us?” My father muttered with a smile while Alpha Sylvester cleared his throat.

“Actually, she fell ill this morning and so she went to visit the Pack doctor.” He explained while his Luna sat beside him.

“Ohhh, I hope it’s nothing too serious.” My father responded.

“No, not at all. In the meantime, what shall my honorable guests have?” He gestured. My eyes squinted a bit, I didn’t know why but I felt he was lying. Whatever reason he was doing that, I didn’t know but it certainly dampened my expectations.

And after an hour of talks and exotic meals, we were finally back to our rooms. I stared at the king size bed before me but it didn’t quite feel right. I couldn’t feel the mate bond connection as much as I did in Brent’s room. I also couldn’t take my mind off the fact that Alpha Sylvester lied. But he was right about one thing, Sylvia was definitely not in the Pack House. I could tell that from the tour one of the maids gave us. Perhaps the only reason I felt this connection was because this was where she lived. I was still embedded in my thoughts when a knock came in. I heaved a light sigh before heading towards the door.

“Brent, thank goodness you’re here.” I mumbled, swiftly pulling him in.

“You feeling lonely already?” He laughed, taking a good review of my room.

“You’ve been here before, you don’t need to act like you’re entering my room for the first time.” I rolled my eyes.

“Can’t I admire the room again? Not everyone is lucky to get Alpha treatment, you know.”

“Since you love it so much, why don’t we switch rooms?” I started as I sat by the desk at the corner of the room.

“Are you being serious right now?!” He exclaimed.

“Yeah, I don’t quite like the feel of this one. I prefer your room.” I nodded.

“Deal!!” He sharply replied with a giggle. “Don’t go back on your words later okay?” He warned before jumping on the bed. Wriggling across it like a child.

“Don’t you think Alpha Sylvester was lying?” I suddenly asked and he stopped wriggling.

“About his daughter?”

“Yeah.”

“I don’t know but something felt off when his wife came.” He replied while he sat on the edge of the bed. “You think it’s something serious?” He asked whilst holding my gaze.

I wriggled my head.

“I don’t know…” I mumbled and then a knock suddenly came on the door.

“Come in.” Brent muttered and Beta Chris sauntered inside. He offered to give a tour around Clawers Pack and we easily agreed, perhaps I would be lucky to meet my mate along the way.

Sylvia's pov

“Shit! My father is definitely going to kill me!” I mumbled as I drove speedily to Pack House.

“Yup! On second thoughts, why don’t you drop me home. I don’t think I’m ready to bear the wrath of your father.” My best friend said with a nervous chuckle.

“Danielle, you fraud!” I scorned and she tried to play innocent.

“Look at the time, it’s nine pm. If not that both of our phones are out of battery, we would probably be receiving tons of calls from your father by now.” She lamented. “Leaving the Pack today was a bad idea Sylvia.”

“Oh now you want to be the advisor. Aren’t you the same person who was being the devil this morning?” I retorted. “You were the same person screaming to have those limited edition heels before it runs out.”

“Well….” She squirmed, I glared and she laughed. “Fine just take it easy on the pedal will you.”

“The more time passes the madder my father gets.” I sighed while increasing the pressure on the pedal.

“What of your supposed mate? He might be mad at you too, you know.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Well he’s the one looking to get engaged, he should learn some patience.”

“He is the Alpha of the legendary Vêtus Pack, Sylvia.”

“Do I look like I care?” I scoffed.

“Oh you would when you find out he’s not quite your taste.” Danielle laughed..

“Oh he better be if not, I’m canceling this whole wedding thing. I don’t even like the idea of getting married this soon, I mean I still have centuries to live for, I don’t get the rush.”

“Well, your father has his reasons.”

“His reasons better be worth it.” I remarked and after a few minutes we finally arrived at Pack House. As soon as I alighted, my eyes fell on the exotic vehicles apparently from Vetus Pack but it didn’t surprise me much. My father wasn’t lacking in his fleet of cars either.

“Sylvia!” Beta Chris suddenly yelled as he stepped out of the house.

“Oh ho, that face of his doesn’t look too good.” Danielle toned mockingly by my side and I almost laughed considering the way he walked furiously towards us.

“Where were you all day?!” He growled.

“I went out as you can see.” I replied not intimidated by his tone in the slightest.

“You went out? On a day like this?! For goodness sake can’t you be responsible for once?!” He groaned.

“Oh please don’t start preaching your nonsense to me.” I waved him off and then I gingerly walked into the building even though a part of me was scared of my parents’ rage. As soon as Danielle and I entered the living room, my parents were already seated by the couch, glaring at me. I stared at Danielle and then we both grinned at them.

“Hi Dad! Hi mom!” I chirped but they weren’t buying my lovely smile. My father growled while my mother donned a worried look.

“I see you went shopping again.” She said with disappointment, heavily gracing her tone.

“We had to lie, you were sick, do you know how shameful that was?”

I exhaled, resisting the urge to roll my eyes.

“Go upstairs to your room and remain there till further notice.” My father ordered in an icy tone that easily grounded fear in my heart. Danielle and I exchanged glances at each other before heeding to his words.

“Never ever have I seen your father that mad before.” Danielle quoted while we walked across the hallway but my thought had travelled elsewhere. I could feel my wolf jeering in excitement. I could feel it, my mate was here. I suddenly stopped a room door on impulse.

“What are you doing Sylvia?” Danielle asked but I proceeded to open the door.

“Your father asked you to go straight to your room!” She screamed in a whisper but my hands moved regardless and as the door opened, there he was, sleeping bare chested. His ebony skin glowed perfectly complementing his sturdy back.

“Sylvia! Sylvia!” Danielle screamed in a whisper but I closed the door behind her. I gulped down my saliva as I admired his muscles. I could feel the sparks intensify and I needed no soothsayer, this sexy ebony was the Alpha of Vetus Pack, my mate.
