Her Heartache

After the short journey filled with deep and heavy breaths came to an end, Ayden parked the car in front of the penthouse they used to share before. He hadn’t been there since last year when he went to the USA when they were still engaged. Currently, Eleana was the one staying there alone. She still couldn't bring herself to move out of that apartment. It had too many memories to leave behind and her heart wasn't ready to leave them alone.

Ayden came out of the car and before he could reach the other side of the car, Eleana had already opened the door and came out. She didn't even wait for Ayden's response as she turned her back towards the entrance of the building and directly went inside. She didn't want to stay in the same space with the man who had mercilessly broken her heart. She had yet to collect the broken pieces and join them together for them to function again and it wouldn't be possible if he was 10 kilometres near her. She fastened her pace when she realised Ayden was following her inside. She quickly got into the elevator and closed it before Ayden could reach it.

After the elevator started going up, Eleana sighed in relief. At least, she was successful in avoiding riding in the same elevator as him. It would make her dizzy and she didn't want that. The elevator reaching the 17th-floor brought her back to reality and she quickly got out of the elevator. She then freed her hair from the messy bun and ran her hands through her long luscious hair. Just as she was about to make her way through the hallway towards her penthouse, she heard the next elevator ding. She jerked up and turned around to look for the intruder. She frowned looking at Ayden's frustrated face.

She thought he already left!

She felt her headache building up just by seeing him standing in front of her

"What do you want, Mr Campbell?" She asked without beating around the bushes. Her arms were already crossed in front of her chest. She looked tired yet defensive.

"Why are you behaving like that, Eleana? And what's with this Mr Campbell bullshit?" Ayden asked back with an equal level of frustration. He didn't understand what had gotten into her suddenly. Why was she behaving so feisty? It wasn't like her. She was always calm and composed.

"Behaving like what? Are there any certain standards of behaviour I was supposed to follow? Sorry my bad, I wasn't aware of that, Mr Campbell." She voiced out in pure sarcasm which pissed Ayden off completely. He was getting more angry and impatient with her with every passing minute.

"Are you doing this to piss me off Eleana? If you are then you are getting successful." He started after a chuckle. His voice was dangerously calm while he ran his fingers through his hair to calm his anger.

"Me? Trying to piss you off? Why would I do that?" Eleana chuckled while acting clueless. Ayden took a deep calming breath while taking a few steps towards her.

"Why are you behaving so hostile towards me, Eleana?" Ayden asked, this time his voice was surprisingly calm and tender. He used this voice towards her when he used to explain things to her. Eleana couldn't help but laugh. She laughed her heart out making Ayden confused and frustrated at the same time.

"You are funny, Mr Campbell. Really really funny." Eleana blurted out with a smile. Ayden didn't respond. He simply stared at her beautiful face. He was actually trying to understand what was going through her head. Her blue eyes suddenly looked mysterious to him. Those eyes suddenly looked different to him and he couldn't find a perfect reason for that.

"How am I supposed to behave around a man who broke my heart? How am I supposed to behave around a man who humiliated me in front of the people of whole Vancouver by breaking the 2 years-long engagement to marry my beloved cousin? How am I supposed to behave around the same man who cheated on me and didn't think it was necessary to explain anything or inform me of anything? Just because I accepted doesn't mean I forgot what you did to me. How you hurt my dignity and pride." She said with a smile yet a drop of traitorous tear escaped from her left eye. She quickly looked away to hide it but he had already seen it. She waited for a while for him to respond but he didn't. She heaved a sigh and looked in his direction. His face was blank. She couldn't read what he was thinking and she was too tired to do it. She felt physically, mentally and emotionally tired and if she stayed there any longer she might break in front of him so she turned around to go to her house.

"I'm sorry princess, It wasn't in my hands. I didn't want this to happen but it still happened" After being silent for so long Ayden finally spoke up in a barely audible voice. Those words made Eleana frozen in her place as she felt her heart was getting too heavy to move. She simply stood there with her back facing him. She didn't know what had gotten into her when she suddenly turned around and ran in Ayden's direction. He ran straight into his arms and hugged him tightly. She clenched her eyes shut and hugged him as her life depended on him. After a while, she felt him wrapping his hands around her. The feeling of being in his arms after more than a year made her more vulnerable. She felt she will break down any moment if she stayed there any longer so she quickly unchanged herself and tried to run away from there when Ayden held her hand, stopping her from running away. She slowly turned around to look at his handsome face which was filled with guilt. She reached out her free hand and touched his face. She couldn't help but admire how God had created that man. She ran her finger from his cheek to his lips while tears kept falling from her eyes. Just the thought of not getting to touch him, hold him and kiss him made her feel crazy.

Eleana slowly leaned forward and slowly placed her soft lips on his. She could feel her heart beating crazily against her ribcage as she slowly nibbled his lips after closing her eyes. The soft touch of his lips sent her heart in turmoil. All of sudden she opened her eyes and wrapped her arms around him tightly again. She broke down into uncountable sobs as she couldn't hold back her emotions anymore. She cried. She cried her heart out. Her heart was in too much pain and she was unable to tolerate it anymore.

"Why couldn't you love me instead of her? What did I do wrong? Why wasn't my love enough for you? Why didn't you tell your heart to choose me instead of her? Why?" She whispered in so much pain. She sobbed and sobbed until her tears went dry. Meanwhile, Ayden just stood there rooted in his place. He didn't say anything nor did he hold her in his arms. She simply stood there motionless without an expression. After a while, Eleana finally calmed herself down and distanced herself from him. She didn't dare to look directly at his eyes after the emotional breakdown. She felt embarrassed after realising how she let the man who broke her heart see her in the most miserable state. She quickly wiped her eyes and turned her heels to crawl into her house when his deep voice reached her ears.

"There was no need to tell my heart to fall for you instead of her. There was no need to choose you instead of her." These sentences broke the remaining heart and pride she had left. She didn't dare to turn around and see the look on his face as he spoke those heartbreaking words.

Was it even possible to break a broken heart? How could people break a heart that was already broken multiple times?

Eleana felt her world was collapsing again as tears of pain and agony blurred her eyes. She quickly held her dress and ran directly towards her house to hide herself from all the pain and heartache. But how unfortunate for her to run to the exact place from where most of her pain and heartache began!

Pathetic. Girl at least make it in the house before you have a breakdown

I like his persistence to talk to her. It shows he still cares for her. It breaks my heart.
