Chapter 62 ~ No memory

Nikolai paced the hospital waiting room, his shirt stained with Joane's blood. Guilt gnawed at him, twisting his insides into knots.

He blamed himself for putting Joane in danger, for not being able to listen when she warned him. The image of her jumping in front of the bullet to save him was seared into his mind, haunting him.

The police had arrived only later but because Nikolai was a superstar, he asked them to keep it under wraps because the few months his father had given him would end very quickly if they got wind of what happened.

After a few phone calls, the ambulance had showed up and stopped the bleeding before they rushed her to the hospital.

Joane was rushed into emergency surgery and Nikolai waited outside the door. It had only been twenty minutes but he felt like so many hours had passed.
