Katie's POV

It all started when Alex's business partner, John, reached out to us with a request. John had been mentoring a troubled teenager named Emily, who was struggling to find a stable home environment. Her parents had both passed away, and she had been moving from foster home to foster home, never able to find a place where she felt like she belonged.

John had been doing his best to support Emily, but he knew that she needed a more stable home environment if she was going to have any chance of turning her life around. And that's where we came in.

"Katie, Alex, I know this is a big ask, but I was wondering if you might be willing to take Emily in for a while," John said, his voice filled with concern.

Alex and I exchanged a glance, and I could tell that we were both thinking the same thing: Could we really take on another child right now? Max's medical needs were already taking up so much of our time and energy.

But then I thought about Emily, and how much she must be struggling.
