Chapter 29 – The Gateway
JwgstoutThere were a few reasons why I wasn't able to post yesterday. Some of you may know I have an ill family member which requires me to take them to the hospital every day. some days are longer than others. Usually, I upload my chapters so I can just post them. However, I made a silly mistake and messed up the order of my chapters. It was very late at night by the time I was able to fix the silly mistake. There will be days that I am not able to post as we are still navigating our new normal routine in our household. That being said, I hope you are enjoying the story so far. I will be posting three chapters today and hopefully next week regular chapter posting will resume!

GILLIAN I hang up the satellite phone shaking my head to Tristan, “They found a trail, but… then it disappeared. TAWNY TWO WEEKS LATER “Order! Order!” The squirrely councilman shouts, hammering a gavel onto his bench. “There will be silence in the council chambers or you will all be arrested and thrown into cells!” I look around, thinking that’s a lot of people to threaten to throw in the cells. TAWNY At the top of Cambiador’s hierarchy sits the royal family. The King or Queen and their successors. Outside of the capital, the kingdom is split into twelve houses, or twelve separate Clowders, each house controls a large portion of land overseen by the Lord. Each of those Lords who have control of the land is responsible for overseeing the development and structure of their Clowder and they each have their own warriors and their own elders. One elder is voted on to the main council to act as a judiciary for the kingdom. To uphold the laws put into place and pass sentencing as necessary. The Lords are privy to sit in the court of councils along with the chosen elders and of course the King and Queen. Much like the Packs in the New Moon Kingdom and their order of hierarchy. The five women who sit in front of me now would be considered Lunas or Den mothers if we were in the werewolf and bear kingdoms. Here they are just referred to as Ladies. CRIMSON Tedious and unnecessary. That’s what this was. We were waiting on the council to grace us with their presence and the verdict of their vote on Gillian and the supposed crimes she had committed. Each house’s representative cast their vote this morning to determine if Gillian should be held accountable for breaking the blood contract of our marriage. If they found her guilty the lowest punishment would be to have her imprisoned for ‘X’ amount of time. Whatever sentence they served her. The highest and most absurd conviction they could give her was the death penalty. Over my dead body would that happen. Even if she was sentenced to imprisonment, I had no intention of letting her spend one night in a cell. CRIMSON “Tell me what this Althea said about you?” Mathias asks as we shuck our shirts and step onto the open training field. “Not much, just that I am the only one of my kind and the god's magic would have no effect on me.” Without warning King attempts to slap me, I’m fast enough to bat his hand away and step out of reach. “Oh, it’s like that is it?” I give him a smug smile and lift my hands ready for his next assault. LAMIA I could clearly see the werelion they call Althea, was not happy about us being here. Tawny reiterated the story of Orion and Silas. I shudder just thinking of Silas and thank the moon goddess he is long dead. Tawny also said that Silas had come back here because he was looking for something and someone, which is when Althea brought them down to the library.
